Would you buy this lc

First, thanks for the info on O2 sensors. I am looking at a 96 with 122K. The bad, there is an issue with the hood. Something spilled on it or whatever, anyway about $300. to fix the paint. The check engine light is on, O2 sensors?, if so another $300. in parts. if not, $$$ unknown. The front seats (leather) are cracked. The good, one owner, straight body and no rust. Also no receiver which means it has never towed anything. The best part, factory lockers. They are down to $7500. The $600. in repairs takes it to $8100 plus TTL. Is this too much or should I have bought it yesterday. New to the 80 series and do not want to make newbie mistake. Thanks in advance for your insight.

How is the maintenance history? Birfs, head gasket, etc...

Do you like the color of the rig??
How does the rest of the vehicle show???
How many other 80's have you looked at and driven????

I would offer them $6k and see what happens.
(It's easy for me to say this than to do it myself though.)

Good luck!

Just go in with what you feel it is worth. BUT, before you do - TAKE IT TO A MECHANIC AND A TRANNY SHOP! Make sure all mechanical is as sound as it can be, with the exception of the little known things. I just got my Cruiser last Friday - dealer had it. Asking $6500, I picked it up for roughly $5k. I walked in with CASH in hand - because I offered to fix the little things it needed!

Just food for thought!

John

X2 on the 6K. Seems like a fair price in today's market.

Get it taken to a reputable mechanic.

In addition to the normal checks, have them run a leakdown test to make sure the head gasket isn't blown or leaking.

It will be very difficult to have it "inspected" via the internet.

Color is white, my first choice. There are service records, and it looks really clean and straight, Still the eng light is a concern

I guess regardless of the eng light, sounds like it's too high also do they use salt in Indy?

White is the best "color". Cooler in the summer. Get the best price you can, AFTER you check it out to your satisfaction.

Then, don't expect better than 15 MPG, AFTER it's tuned up.

Most capable SUV ever built.

The other day, while having my tires rotated, the tire man said, "How many miles on it?" When I said 120K, he said, "you have another 200K easy, with that rig !!", so the reputation for longevity is well known.

Buy an FSM.

Sounds to me like it could be a nice vehicle... with lockers is a great plus. Still think you should drive several of them before committing at that price. Miles don't always tell the whole story, even on landcruisers. I've been burned trying to buy vehicles out of state, so I'm more hesitant to drop everything and fly/drive to check something out. Seems like you may be able to find some locally w/o rust? At least check out some local ones so you know what to compare to when you get to Indy. My .02.

I would be more concerned about rust than the check engine light. Get them to take several photos of the frame and axles. You will be able to tell very quickly if it's been driven in salt laden roads.

When I was searching, rust was my number one criteria (or lack thereof). Almost everything else can be repaired. Of course rust can also but what a PITA!

If you don't see signs of rust then I would go for it at that price.

I wouldn not get it unless you look at the truck yourself due to rust problem in Indy.

Yeah, checking the undercarriage for rust is a very good idea. Price appears a bit on the high side.
Are the lockers confirmed? Or is it based simply on the assumption due to a switch on the dash?
You most likely are already aware to check for that.
Oh, my check engine light came on way back when. I added Lucas fuel injector cleaner to the gas and it hasn't come back on. I add it at fill-up periodically.
Best of luck on your search.
