A little bit different drawer system question.

Ok i plan on making myself a drawer system in the near future. My question is; where do you guys that have made a system before take your measurements from. I just want to make sure that i get all the dimensions down without leaving out something obvious.
Thanks!

  1. measure wheel well to wheel well.
  2. measure from where you want the face to start (towards tailgate) to the 2nd row.
  3. decide on height and adjust depth measurement accordingly. remember to use a square.
if your not confident that your measurements are spot on, you can make a generic box out of cardboard and test fit then make adjustments.

Keep in mind:
• Handle hardware. Is it recessed or sticking out?
• The second row seats recline, a little.

Think...think some more...and you will miss something anyway!!

On mine what I found out was I made my sides to open and this caused interference problems with the recline in the second row seats

Also decide if you want to mount on top of the carpet or if you are going to remove the carpet first. I have been toying with the idea of removing the carpet and line-x'ing the back area before installing the box. Now MY reason for doing this is spills. Its going to suck major A$$ if oil or water spill under this think and its still carpet and jute.

Good call with that put i dont plan on keeping anything that has the potential of spilling in my boxes. An option that may let you keep your carpet though would be to just coat the inside of the box itself.

If you are worried about it you can always make a full size mock-up out of cardboard. It can be good headache provention.
Also if you are planning to make a half drawer system, I will let you have all my measurments.http://forum.ih8mud.com/80-series-te...=drawer+system

ok so i sat down today and took all the measure ments that i'll need and came up with my basic design. I pretty much just took a little of this and a little of that from everyones ideas. I tried to get these things on my computer via my girlfriends scanner, unfortunately i dont have the riht software, i tried saving it as a pdf which did get it off of her computer and onto mine i just dont know how to post a link to a pdf.

Anyway heres the best i could do with my cell phone. i'll keep trying to get these things on here somehow with some better quality.

if your planning on eventually going with a fridge, and your truck is lifted you may want to rethink the height. Unless your an NBA star in might be tough to get in the top. Also with the wings what will you use to support them?

As for the pdf deal, you can put it on a hosting site and link to it there or resave the scanned image as a jpeg.

You can link to an externally hosted PDF, or if you want to email me at my profile address I can convert it to JPG and send it back to you.

Make your life easier and use Google Sketchup. Its what I'm currently using to design me. Super simple

i'll try that sketchup thing sounds cool. As for the fridge no i wont be having one of those. and my truck will never be more than 2 or 3 inches higher than it is now. Thanks a ton for all the advice i've been getting here!!! Once i figure that sketchup program out i'll post up some better blue prints.

I second the recommendation for a cardboard mockup. It'll allow you to easily cut the plywood top and bottom for a tight fit...it'll also give you a better feel for how high you really want it.

Or just steal someone else's drawings. There's a bunch of builds here...someone should have the dimensions for you.
