Angry Anybody want to sell your CD-changer ???

Hello guys, I have just purchased my first LX450. Shipping to Germany went pretty smoothly, however when I received my cargo I noticed couple interior drawbacks. One of them was the central console unscrewed and cd-changer missing...:(. I guess all this happened thanx to cargo boys :(

Anyways, I tried to search ebay with no results. Does anybody of you guys want to get rid of your CD-changer ??? I will be more than happy to buy one from you .

You can email me: petersulik@tlen.pl

Greetings from Poland

I'd imagine there has got to be someone on here that has one, but shipping is probably going to kill you. If I was in your shoes, I would upgrade to a scion head unit and mp3 port. Besides a factory LX cd changer/head unit is 11-12 years old and its only a matter of time before they will likely have some sort of issue. You can find the scion unit on EBAY for as little as 30 bucks w/o shipping. There are several scion unit install writeups here on mud.

My LX450's changer doesn't operate from time to time (haven't looked into why yet). I've been thinking of replacing it with an iPod:

Cloud13 Design Blog Archive VW Auxiliary Audio Input

There are multiple posts on WWW about doing this in other vehicles. A few points I've seen:
  • One blank CD is left in the changer to trick head unit into thinking it's the source. This is NOT needed, as you could trick the Head Unit as follows.
  • I think you could use Electrical Wiring Diagram to find which wire in bundle to changer feeds signal to HU, tricking it to think changer is there & has a CD. Believe the signal is 12 V +.
  • Use 12 V + & - wires from wire bundle to power an iPod dock.
  • Use L & R channel + & - from bundle to match iPod dock's.
  • I believe the dock will boost the iPod's output level to ~ 3 V to match the changer's output/HU input level.
I haven't spent much time on this idea. I do have the 97 LX450 EWD, which shows info on the CD changer's wiring to HU.

This wasn't the changer you were looking for. I've found some changers & complete HUs listed on Car-Part.com--Used Auto Parts Market Personally, I figure finding a working unit & expecting it to work well into the future is a pretty optimistic route to take.

IMHO, since you lack the changer, you have the incentive to try hooking up an iPod.

Good Luck!

97 LX450 EWD for CD changer

  1. Pin 1 Blue-Yellow stripe 12 V + Always ON
  2. Pin 2 Black Ground
  3. Pin 3 Red CD Left Channel +
  4. Pin 4 NOT USED
  5. Pin 5 Orange IP -
  6. Pin 6 Gray Accessory 12 V + (15 A Cigar lighter fuse)
  7. Pin 7 Green 12V + Illumination from taillight
  8. Pin 8 White CD Left Channel -
  9. Pin 9 Green CD Right Channel +
  10. Pin 10 Blue CD Right Channel -
  11. Pin 11 White S Ground
  12. Pin 12 Yellow IP +

Believe the CD plug is numbered (Left to Right)
Pin 1 2 3 X X X 4 5
Pin 6 7 8 9 10 11 12

Pin 1 12 V + Always ON
Pin 6 12 V + ON when key switched to Accessory

I think Pins 5 & 12 are indicators to the HU. Completing their circuit MIGHT be the key to tricking HU into believing a CD is playing?

Please POST if you go this route & succeed. Good Luck!
