stupid drop bracket

well the first time out wheeling the 80 i broke a 12mm bolt that was holding on the sway bar drop bracket

This is just a heads up to who ever is using this type of Slee drop bracket. Now this is not a rant on Slee's bracket since this is a bolt on part not his fault that this bolt failed just offering my solution to the problem or a preventive maintenance item in some one else case.
so i drilled out the two 8-1.25 holes and tap them out to 10-1.25 used a 14mm head bolt from my pile on mini truck bolts...fix works great, I trust this a lot more them those 12mm

Do you have the full kit? or mostly curious about the adj. panhards? we have a member here that has sheered those bolts a couple of times, and we were thinking cause of the offset of the rear axle. Now he just removes the rear for wheeling i beleive.

We run a similar bracket, even with heavier sway bars, and never see the right H/T bolt shear there, unless its been overtensioned.

I have broken several hardened bolts on those brackets. To be fair, I had to bend the lower control arm out of the way so I could drag the sway bar over the rocks to do it. Anything can be broken, and sometimes you need a 'fuse'. I was happy to replace the bolts in 5 minutes of easy-out time (actually a left-hand drill bit does the trick nicely) rather than buy/build new brackets.

the problem is that when you stuff one side of the axle this bracket and even the other style ends up lower than the lower control arm and is likely to catch on rocks, dirt or what ever and has to deal with being dragged over it.

That was what was damaging my links and why I made the HD ones. I personally would switch over to the style that mounts to the underside of the frame and either run my links or make something similar. Because of that design the sway bar will flex in all directions a little and deal with that dragging better. I've pulled a lot of sod and crap out of mine now without any damage.

this is more of just a temp fix till i can switch to switch to the under frame bracket with the landtank links.
yes having a "fuse" may be fine for others but for me if it will break under a certain parameter i will make it stronger, if by making it stronger something else breaks well i will make that stronger an so the war will begin until i have it up to my standards.
when it all comes down to it a 12mm bolt should not be holding on a sway bar link in my opinion

I just use the stock brackets - the swaybar is rotated down some but is still just behind the pumpkin and axle housing, and is not lowered into rock contact on the frame end.

I've had no issues with this setup to date, I think the frame location to axle location is balance is perfect. One of the best free mods I never did
