Someone Please Buy This

Have prices really dropped this much? Under 6k for an LX with lockers? Is anyone in the Seattle area in need of an LX? I would consider it but the wife thinks one LX and one FJ are enough...(I want to get her an LX470 when she needs a new vehicle, but we will see).

WTH??
You have to call one of three people, at three different phone numbers?

Assuming it's legit that would be a pretty good deal though.

Ummmmm, ... I do have a friend in Washington that would be willing to save it for me for a few months...

It's kind of high on the miles, but the price is right. I have been watching ebay ads and 80's/LX's just aren't selling. People are bidding on them but the price rarely gets above 4-5K on the 95-97's, so they reserve is rarely met. Hopefully the prices will continue to plummet and I may just be able to snag a clean one for a rock bottom price. The is getting really tired of putting the car seat in/out of the 08 civic. She hates the width of the 80 on skinny older town roads, but I think her back pain will make her change her mind.

I just sold my '03 M3 and I'm seriously considering a second LX!

Even if gas is crazy expensive, as the entry costs drive down, my fuzzy logic can justify 13 mpg...

My wife loves the one we own, so I don't get to drive it, and I get jealous!

X20 even with all the side curtain airbags that the new Honda's com with, I don't think they are any match for 6000lbs of Cruiser steel. I really wish I could have talked her out of a Honda at the time, but she liked sporty "cute" cars back then. On the other hand, I don't know how expensive it would be to maintain a cruiser with a that has a heavy right foot and that loves to take tight corners putting maximum strain on the front axle.

It's a process .. when I meet my wife for forst time she drive a Terios ( Daihatsu ) and she thought that was a 4x4 ..

But at the end was a pretty small car .. she are still in the process to learn how to drive the cruiser around the town ..

Picked up mine w/lockers for 3500 about 3 months ago in Jacksonville Fl, like most didn't know she had them. She listed for 5K and took more off cause of paint and seats being torn (who cares for my purposes) and an oil leak issue and some CEL Codes. Have fixed all mechanical issues minus the P0401 for $25, and that includes complete rebuild and clean of both lockers. Patience is the key to ridiculous deals.

I think now is the time to buy an 80/LX450, fuel will never be cheap again but it is somewhat stableized for the moment. I think cruiser heads are realizing the value of a 4w disc, coil susp, lockers, non-rusting, FF rear axle, rock solid truck for 4-5K with 150K is a VALUE. I dont ever see them being cheaper than now. You have to pay more for a 60 and they are not the truck an 80 is.

If I had a place to store an extra one I'd do what ever I could to buy a spare 80. Ideally I would like 3 or 4 of them so my kids could drive them.

I live in Grenada currently and I see a fair number of those Terios, I agree calling that 4x4 is a bit of a stretch. I couldn't imagine driving my cruiser or esp the superduty on the roads around here. Most of them aren't too bad till you get "out" then they can get pretty hairy. It is funny with the drivers around here the smaller their vehicles are the more road they take up. I currently am driving around in a 4x4 bare bone suzuki sidekick (escudo).

80's are the most well though out cruisers ever built IMO ( still love the way 40's look). 100 series went down hill, looks and capability-wise. Are the non-usa 100 series solid front axle? Everyone needs two, here are mine

I don't know that the later 100 series were but some of the 100s were solid front axle. I remember seeing a new one 2005 in the states that was getting armor plated (in AL) for a Defense Contractor. It had a solid front, steel wheels, I-6 diesel, manual tranny, and maybe even manual hubs (can't remember). It had supposedly been shipped from Australia.

I think they eventually went to IFS all the new Hilux's down here are still diesel but they have IFS now, which sucks. There aren't many LC's down here (the kind we know), they are a lot more LC Prado (the stateside Lexus GX or whatever it is called). There is a hodge-podge mixture of vehicles in the Caribbean because locals returning home (here) to retire ship vehicles from the states and canada. The local dealerships get the non-north america versions of vehicles and the dealers here include Toyota, Nissan, Peugeot, and Ford (that I have seen). There are a "fair" number of BMWs, Range Rovers (even brand new D110's), and Mercedes too.

The 100 series had two distinct models for overseas. The normal 100 with IFS that we are familiar with in the states and the 105 series, which is the solid axle version. The 105 was based on the 80 series chassis, or at least a very similiar chassis and axles to the 80 series. It also used the I-6, most likely because of the 80 series chassis that was already set up for it.

It was generally sold as the bare bones cheap model of the line up and was made all the way through the end of the 100 series run. Only certain countries got them though.

I agree that the 80s are starting to come into their own and prices will eventually go back up once people figure out just how valuable they really are and more importantly how rare they are. The very last solid axle Toyota that will EVER be imported into the states and a very heavy duty and comfortable vehicle to boot.

The death of the SUV market has completely killed off the normal 80 series buyer and so prices have absolutely collasped. Now and probably for the next year or two one will be able to find some very serious deals. The best thing about the 80s is that most owners have absolutely no idea what they have. They couldn't tell difference between an 80 or a Tahoe and don't know the difference between lockers and lugnuts. All they know is they own a rig that gets 10 mpg and that nobody wants to buy anymore.

I personally would wait for the low mileage lockered equipped rig, because if someone has cash, they will be easy pickings. If I wasn't married with a wife who would absolutely kill me for doing so, I'd definately pick up a couple over the next year or so myself and just store them.

Once the economy picks back up in a few years and assuming gas doesn't go to $6+ gallon afterwards, I personally think the 80 will be what the 40 became in the 1990s and early 2000s. A highly sought after collectable.

Even if gas does go through the roof, if one has a low mileage locked 80 in good original shape, it will eventually bring a pretty penny from those rich folk with means and money who want a serious expedition/off road play toy, when they become extremely hard to find.

The most important thing to remember is they ain't building 80s anymore, they are getting rarer by the day and Toyota will almost certainly never build a solid front axle rig ever again. That spells future collectable worth big bucks someday.

Check out this e-mail from a guy offering a 2004, 100 series for only $4,500 on Craig's List-Los Angeles. I e-mailed the guy to say that if it wasn't a typo, e-mail me back. Here's his response...

Subject: Re: 2004 TOYOTA LANDCRUISER LOW MILEAGE - $4500 (LA)

About the suv? It has a clean title, I'm the first owner, it doesn't have any scratches, dents, it never been involved in an accident or in a flood.
It has only 52,581 miles so the suv it's like new. Right now I'm living in Ephraim, Utah. If are you wondering how the shipping will be made, i have to tell you,
that for the shipping i have an discount at Das Door company. So we don't have to pay anything for the shipping. I am selling this suv so cheap (only 4500$)
because I need money very quick to pay my college fees. If you are a serious buyer please contact me as quick as possible. Thank you very much.
if u wanna see more pics visit this link....

Picasa Web Albums - Michael

I countered that I have a friend that lives in Spanish Fork (nearby town) and he will come by with cash. Just call me to schedule a time.

As expected I didn't hear back. The scammer's probably back home in Nigeria by now.
