Odd sound, hesitation on startup

I rebuilt the starter on my 95 LC about 1 year ago and in the 3000 or so miles since, it has started flawlessly. Recently, I went to start the truck and it cranked then seemed to be trying to stall, but caught. It wasn't similar to the usual starter issues where it fails to engage completely, then will engage on another turn of the key.

This has been intermittent and occurred again recently, after I had driven the truck somewhere and went to restart after being shut down for a few minutes.

My first reaction was that something was caught on a fan belt because it had a sound similar to an overloaded washing machine spinning out of balance. Also sounds like the cranking goes from strong to weak, just before the engine catches.

Thanks in advance for any comments.

How is the battery and all of the connections; especially the main battery ground?

Sometimes you find yourself in the middle of nowhere. And sometimes in the middle of nowhere, you find yourself.

Thank you! I didn't want to state that the battery is 7 years old and morte than likely, due for a replacement.

The symptom would appear to be insufficient cranking power.

Agreed.

Battery choice is a topic we have covered ad nauseaum many times. For a street vehicle the OEM conventional batteries get very good results.

Once you start getting off road for camping, fishing, and all the other reasons we take these things out of the city then your battery choices get more complicated and you will get a lot of differing opinions on which brand and battery style is best.

Post back if you have any questions after you've read up on battery choices.
