I dunno. $4,000 would buy a LOT of oil... I guess I have better things to do with four grand, figure replacement oil between changes at maybe $50/ year...

How much does an engine rebuild cost if you do it your self?

I guess the answer is as much as you want or as close to $1,000 as you can get.

Gaskets/seals: $250
Bearings: $125
Thrust washers: $10
Head Bolts: ???cannot recall but easy to $$ and a lot if it needs all of em!
Machine shop: $300, clean the block, check line bore, hone, polish crankshaft
Time: A lot, and a lot of carting stuff around
odds/ends: $175????

My rig has 225K+ miles on it, and it uses very little oil now. I have replaced the HG, otherwise I have only done regular oil changes. I swear by using Royal Purple 10w40 and Lucas Oil Stabilizer. Took the 80 from using about 1-2 quarts between oil changes, to virtually none.

Changed the oil to 0W30 Mobil 1. Going to check oil in 1000 miles to see where I'm at.

BTW Thanks for all the input here! I really appreciate it.
