starter issue

Well this seems to be an on going issue for me but it was never a real problem until now. Went camping over the weekend up to baker, fully loaded truck with 4 people, 3 dogs and the trailer loaded to the top. lost the dash lights on the way up (where i dont know but i imagine thats just a fuse, wont know till i look) But on the way down we stopped for lunch, After about 30 min we go to leave the the truck wont start. I have plenty of power. I turn the key and i get a hum sound (not a click) try a few times and nothing. pop the hood and check connections ect. try again nothing just a hum. Gave the starter a bang and again nothing but a hum sound. Finally i try starting it again one more time to hear it and it starts up like nothing was wrong. I have replaced the contacts about 2 years ago. Ive searched and no one mentions the hum, any suggestions?

Don't know but I'm in the same boat...replace contacts about 6 months ago....Mine did it for about a week or two then for several months it never reoccured..... until this last Saturday. I'm leaning towards brushes or the plug by the tranny that romer just went through.

look at the plugs on the tranny, but in my case (exact symptoms) i just purchased a new starter from cdan. I imagine it was the solenoid in the starter since i replaced brushes and all, still would start intermittently.

A little trick that worked for me is to bump the key about 3 times then it would fire right up. After i replaced the starter (almost a year ago) not one issue...... knock-on-wood.

that describes my issue exactly. for awhile it would fail to start right away, id stop and turn a few times then boom would fire right up. So you think a new starter is in order or something i can order parts and do myself? Im on a week time line before i have the treak back to colorado.

i'm just saying that is what fixed mine. I put new plunger, contacts, brushes in mine and it fixed it for about one week. Then was doing the exact same thing. Once i put a new one in (remaned actually) all is good.
