Welcome to mud!

I asked the same question some days ago and have basically been told to scrap the OEM unit and go for something better and not to bother. Although I am still wanting to make it work, I like the original looks and it is hard, at least here, to find a double DIN unit in black IF any at all. But I may have to concede defeat and settle for a changer, since I still want to have tape. And by now I need a USB as well. Bloody modern times... still thinking whilst missing good music in the car

Sometimes it is not so easy ($, time) to just "replace it".

I have only owned my 80 for 5 months and during the first 3 months the player would go into a "spit it out" mode every other day where if I stuck with repeatedly pushing the CD back in it eventually played. Then it would no longer read no matter how many times I pushed it back in.

While the CD was sticking out, I took a can of air and did a short burst at a 45 degree angle both at the top and up from the bottom of the CD, essentially using the CD to direct the air into the unit. Just a short gentle push of air, no major blasting. It has not gone into spit it out mode since, two months now. Might be worth a try.

I have the OEM unit out of my '96 that I'd be willing to donate to a fellow mudder, just pay for shipping.

It worked like new when I removed it two years ago. I bagged and sealed it and its been sitting on a shelf in the garage since.

PM me if interested, first come first serve.
