Transformation is complete!
First, many thanks to Redline (over at expeditionportal), and most honorable mention to 24HOURSOFNEVADA for helping me make my decision on tires & wheels.
Paint color was a no-brainer after seeing this: ![]() That's "464 Beige". My original "4K1" was shot. Clearcoat was so bad the primer was showing through and I was starting to get some rust on the edges of the doors, tailgate etc. Tires: I know some people need tires and they do about 30 minutes of research and go buy some tires. Not me. For me to throw over $1000 at something I'm going to be stuck with for a couple of years, and that has my family's safety riding on them, I do a LOT of research. As Redline said, "We had a lot of fun beating it to death!" I finally decided on a set of LT255/85R16 Toyo M/T's. Also went with a set of OEM 70 Series Land Cruiser steelies to replace the cheapo steelies I had on it. Finally she looks "just right"!... Give her a week and she'll have some "desert pin-striping" and a nice patina of dust and grime to augment her natural beauty. If she continues to perform as good as she looks, I'm a happy boy! ![]() Here's what she looked like when I bought her. ![]() Here's what she looked like a month ago, in the middle of my "$600 paint job" prep: ![]() Here's what she looked like this morning: ![]() And here's what she looks like now: ![]() ![]() I love these wheels! ![]() Backspacing is perfect for going flareless.

Not sure if I'm supposed to say it out loud.... better ask The Parts Guru. I will say they were more than double the price of the Discount Tire cheapo steelies I replaced.
BUT I'm sure they are rounder, lighter, stronger, handsomer, perfecter, and Toyota-er.

wow, that looks really nice. almost like a UN vehicle or something. A far cry from the dark green metallic that is my LX450s. Ive seen a lot of nice paintjobs on mud, and yours is one of the nicer ones. Basic being nice
![]() One of the other ones i enjoyed was the camouflage one. If my paint was in not so good shape, i might consider doing that. ![]() jon. __________________ 1997 Lexus LX450 5.29s / Snorkel'd / 4x4 Labs Rear Bumper / ARB Front Bumper M12000 Winch / LTs MAF / Toyo 315 MTs / Factory Lockers / OME Heavy Suspension...for now |

That came out exceptionally good.
I travel from El Paso to San Antonio once or twice a year. How much longer does it take going through Sanderson and Del Rio to SA instead of staying on I10? -B- __________________ 97 FZJ80 - Wing Nut MAF, locked, 315 Toyos, 4.88s, Slee 4", George's sliders, Slee bumpers, M12000, OBA, Outback drawers + other stuff. Very nice colors on the rig and the wheels. Are you planning on painting all the window trim black again or leaving it as is? I personally would do the black trim, but it does look good this way too.

Love the color. Did you paint match your line-x over your flares?

I was getting ready to ask you about the tall-skinnies... but then I noticed you swapped the rear doors!!!
So, how do you like the tall-skinny tires as I too am looking to go this route? Rear doors - WAY COOL!!! |

Very nice... I'd love to hear how you like the tires, as I'm going to need a new set soon. Really dig the tall skinny's!

Well, I'm guessing it might add about an hour or so...? It's a LOT more enjoyable drive, though! It's about 60 miles from Fort Stockton to Sanderson, then about 110 miles more to Del Rio. The only part that will slow you down much is the last leg from Del Rio to SA - several small towns with 35mph speed limits and stoplights on US Hwy 90. __________________ '92 FJ80, 3F-E Grrrrrrrrrrrrr, 464 Beige paint job, 255/85R16 Toyo M/T's on 70 Series steelies, OME 861/862... dubbed "Old Suzy" by my 3-year old. It doesn't look purplish like that in person, but yeah the window tint film is in pretty bad shape in places. Kinda has air bubbles between it and the glass in a few spots.... oh well, that'll give me something productive to work on NEXT summer. __________________ '92 FJ80, 3F-E Grrrrrrrrrrrrr, 464 Beige paint job, 255/85R16 Toyo M/T's on 70 Series steelies, OME 861/862... dubbed "Old Suzy" by my 3-year old. |
