Towing 6500#'s with my fzj

Well, I need to tow a tractor 1 way about 150 miles. I'd guess the total weight with trailer to be 6500 pounds. I'm gonna rent the trailer so I'm assuming it'll have functional brakes. I'm a little nervous about burning up the transmission, but there are no major hills to contend with. What say you almighty cruiser heads?

P.s. iron pig tow bumper and ome heavy's

I just towed a 1941 Dodge Powerwagon on a trailor (6250lbs) 90 miles on very hilly terrian and I did fine. I was doing about 35 mph up some of the hills, but never had overheating issues. Trailor brakes would have been nice on some of the downhills...
I kept the overdrive off almost the whole trip.

I just towed ~6000lbs 1000miles in arizona heat with the A/c on most of the way up and down hilly terrain with no problems. I love my cruiser.

Pulled a complete FJ60 w/ full tank of gas on a flat bed trailer from Chicago to Des Moines w/ no issues. Lots of hills (relatively)

Just consign yourself to being one of the slowest on the road and become friends with your ECT button and overdrive kill button.

Brake early.... WAY early.

Only sketchy part of towing that 60 home was when it actually PUSHED me through an intersection (on a red light) because I braked too late. (tires were nearly smooth, and it had just rained though....)

I had to pull my buddies range rover back from morris mt(AL) to pensacola florida(4 hour drive), he busted his diff while trying to be a land cruiser

DO NOT EVER MAKE THIS ASSUMPTION!
Especially if you're renting from UHaul.
Test the brakes before leaving the rental lot. Insist upon a different trailer until you get one with working brakes.
It's no fun when your trailer pushes you sideways down a 7% grade @ 75+ and the responding cop can't understand why he's not calling the coroner to scrape up my smear.

my cruiser pulled thousands of horses (3 at one time in the trailer) all over the place. It has the tow package (Transmission cooler) but I think any cruiser can do it. Definitely get brakes. Tractors are heavy.

This is around 7k lbs. Trailering not as fun as you would imagine even with brakes on the trailer. Had o/d off the whole time.

My 28' camper is 6000lbs stock weight, plus I had prob another 1000lbs of gear and water. It DOES have good brakes and I have a brake controller in the 80.

I also put a set of air bags in the rear, $100ish and they helped to support / keep the rear leveled out nicely.

The 80 was just GUTLESS on the highway, mostly flat but slight inclines was pedal to the metal and got down as far as 40ish in a 65mph zone. This is running 285/85/16s and stock gears.

But it did tow it, just not something I would want to do over a super long distance. (3 weeks later I pulled the camper with father in laws Taco to/from the beach, 5-6 hours 1 way would have been longer in the 80)

Taller springs will not really help / if your steering is loose / bumpsteer etc towing will make that worse.

But it can be done obviously, just made me wish it had a v8 under the hood.

Nice Nautic Star Pat- I have the 230 I/O with the 5.0 Magnum. We went with the wake board tower as well..Nice boats... As far as pulling it with my cruiser, no way! We use a H2 and it still has to dig in to lug that heavy boat around.

Aaaaaa, another Nautic Star owner!!!!

Bought that last year. Absolutely love the boat, all fiberglass and a 250 4 stroke... Have you found a forum with other owners yet?
You really need the right trailer for towing anything that size. The 80 just about does it at 55 mph o/d off, and you still talk in a higher voice till you get to your destination.

you'll be fine i tow all kinds of cars on both steel and aluminum trailers open and enclosed with my crusher. just be nice and do some maintenace on your tranny sooner rather than later!
