wiring harness for trailer lights
I am trying to wire a trailer wiring harness at my rear bumper and I can't get any power through any of the existing wires.
the old outlet on the truck is gone so all if have is the loose wires any help is much appreciated. i have wired a lot of chevy trucks in the past and this is my first toyota..just in case there is something unique that i don't know. thanks __________________ 1997 FJ80, locked w/4.88's, 35 MTR's, 1"spacer +850J/863J |

Do you have a lot of lights on the trailer?
The reason I ask is that my popup does and I get brake and turn signals but no running/parking lights at the trailer when I turn on the headlights. I've read that the stock Toyota wiring in some cases isn't "strong" enough to power a lot of additional lights so they suggest you add a power source to "up" the power output. My LX came with such a gizmo but I still get nothing at the trailer. When checked at the plug however everything is hooked up correctly. I'm thinking it is time for a new "gizmo"...I can't remember what it is called at the moment but IIRC Hoppy sells it. You run power direct from the battery through this and splice in the wiring for the trailer lights. __________________ '97 LX450 aka "The Whale" with a winch called Damien '97 FZJ80 40th AE, Antique Sage, #267 '74 FJ40, 2F, SM420, 4" Lift, ARB locked front and rear, 33" MTRs '76 FJ40, 2F, 4-speed, 4" Lift, 33" BFG ATs (SOLD)

Or (if this is the case) run LED's.
