Good Battery ?

Over the last couple of years I have parted out a few vehicles, and ended up keeping a few of the batteries. From time to time I put a charge on one and use it to jump a frozen car in the winter.

When I installed dual batteriesin the '80, I needed a matched set of batteries. When I bought 'em the dumb store charged me a recycling fee, even though the battery that used to be in my rig was perfectly good and I was not dropping anything off for recycling.

I have a VOM meter but don't really know how to use it, (other than to poke my eye out with the probes). If I put each of these accumulated batteries on a the trickle charger over night. Is there a setting to put the VOM to see if they are good, or to tell which of them are the best?

If some of them are junk, apparently I can drop them off @ the store and get some of my money back.

Just charge them, then take them to the store and have them load test them.

As Keith mentioned take them to a parts store and get them load tested. You could load test them yourself by putting them in your 80 and read the voltage while cranking them.

hmmmm . . . . .

I wonder if something like this could be wired to the dash, switched between dual batteries, and used to monitor the batteries during times of high battery use ?

Don't see why not. We used these on Yachts I used to run similar to this: Cabela's -- Battery Gauges or this: eBay.ie: >>>> BRAND NEW BATTERY GAUGE TEST SWITCH PANEL <<<< (item 140254004432 end time 07-Aug-08 21:21:00 BST)

I keep mine with a pair of battery clips and move it car to car. Real easy to use. I'm still not sold on the idea that it does much of anything. We'll see if I can actually predict battery life with it.
