Woo Hoo! I'm in the club..

Well - I'm driving my first Toyota and loving it! I've been a Jeeper since I was 15, and I just sold my 1983 Scrambler(www.4wdjeep.com). What better to do than buy an 80? Hmmm... How to change my screen name?..

After looking off and on for a couple of years, I bit the bullet on a clean 97 LX450, lockers, 138K miles, dealer serviced for bulbs, wiper blades, oil changes, etc.

Here she is:

Everything I read here is right on the money. It seems to need the standard lovin':
-power antenna doesn't go up or down
-drivers side mirror is loose
-I can't believe how many hoses and wires are under the hood! I've worked on many engines, and at first glance, this one seems to be the most complicated of all of them.

These vehicles are truly the ultimate Sport Utility Vehicle - talk about utility.. Luxury and lockers - are you kidding? This is great!

Also, I can't imagine towing the fully rated 5000lb trailer with this. Suspension seems too soft and it seems a bit underpowered for that kind of load. Has anyone done this?

It'll stay stock as long as it's still serving daily driver duties. Now I'm off to find a good price on a FSM. Oh, does anyone know if cdan can get Lexus parts? I'm thinking of getting a new set of floor mats.

Glad to be onboard - Thanks for all the great info

Welcome fellow pink panty-er

Yes, suspension on the LX is waaay too soft. You will find MANY things on there to replace and add. As far as the antennae, personally I hated the auto antennae. I'm glad I removed it so that I don't have to replace everytime we leave it up for while driving in the garage or going to the car wash.

welcome

i also have a LX450. When i first got mine it was soft and saggy as well. Now it is on a OME Heavy/Heavy Lift.
Most of the mechanical parts we can get from Cdan since they are the same. As for the lexus specific parts, the last time i asked Cdan for these he said that he could not get them. I dont know if that has changed or not. I scored my FSM, a set of fancy "L" center caps, and some new floormats via ebay. I had set up one of ebays searches for this to automatically find stuff for me.

Did you replace it with a fixed mast or simply remove it altogether? I'd be glad to replace it with a fixed mast to prevent that motor from running up and down all the time.

Thanks -

You just need to replace the mast on teh antenna. The nylon chain has broken and you feed that back into the motor. Several write-ups on that

The lexus springs are softer than landcruiser springs. First thing I changed and what a difference

Here is what it will look like in a few years (Oasis RTT optional)

Thanks guys!

Yep - I'm used to burning money on Jeeps, and looking forward to it on the 80. My Jeep was always a trail vehicle, so this is the first daily driver I'll be spending on for no justifiable reason(!)

Just edited my profile, I'm in Nashville, TN. Now to figure out a way to change my crazy username!

You'll find you can have an awesome 80 and still drive like a dream on the road. I prefer my 4" 35'd built up 80 to my wives basically stock in terms of ride/drive quality.

I know a lot of my friends built Jeeps don't ride that great, or are tipsy or something...

The 80 is just awesome for DD/weekend warrior/kid hauler/trail rig.

PM Woody. A few years ago we could change our user names but that option went away through an upgrade or something. I think he can still do it for you if you ask. Good luck and nice truck.

welcome! I too recently gave up the jeep thing for an 80! three weeks ago, bought an 80, week later bought used ome springs, waited 2 days, ordered new ome shocks, ordered a front axel rebuild kit and some tune up parts from cdan, and bought an fsm. i bought the book straight from toyota warehouse cause i could not find a used one fast enough to appease my impatient mind. im going to dig into the axel and suspension this sat. figure if im gonna jump into it, might as well dive in head first. love the rig. built sooo much better than my tj.
