Starter i.d. tag?
Where exactly on the starter should it have the model listing? I crawled unerneath it in the parking lot but can't locate it. My contacts need to be replaced but CDan told me I needed this first so I get the correct parts. Thanks as always. BTW the beast is for sale in the classifieds.

I just took mine apart and had a look at the contacts - it was pretty obvious which were required. Sent $20 (inc shipping to the UK) to the webcrawler guy and now sorted

Try turning the wheels. Above the United States drivers side you might be able to peek in between the frame and inner fender and see the tag. Might have to lift up the plastic skirt.
There are a couple of pictures in post 9 and 13 in this thread that might help. Notice there is no long bolt along the starter motor in the 2.2 so this can be helpful in identification. Bill __________________ If it ain't broke, fix it until it is. 97 40th |

It's visible by looking down from the engine bay. You may have to wipe off the top of the starter to see it.

Here's mine from the top of the engine bay looking down. That fuzzy bar in the foreground is the steering shaft.
![]() It is possible you dont have an original toyota starter, but an aftermarket remaned one. I was trying to find the toyota part number on mine before realizing it didn't have one

are there any stampings to id an oem starter? i've got one that was rusted like crazy and if there was a sticker, it's long gone.
odd thing was when we tore it apart to do the starter contacts, both contacts were the same. is this maybe a warm weather starter? or aftermarket (my guess). it's on a 95. also, are the solenoids interchangeable between the different model 80 starters? __________________ seven cruisers and 3 of em run and four are for sale |
