Heh, finally figured out this stupid leak

When I did my oil pan arc seal last year, it sure didn't look like it was leaking from there.

Well, I guess time to call Dan and order
  1. Oil Pump seal
  2. Crank Shaft Pulley Seal
  3. Idler Pulley

Those of you that removed/replaced your crank shaft pulley, what did ya'll use to tighten that Crank Shaft Pulley? I am looking for the best technique + tool.

Thanks

If you are talking about the bigga bolt (304ft.lb), then I made a tool I free hand plasma cut in a rush, when I did my s/c install. You can see the tool on my website -> Kazuma Supercharger Install

The picture of the 'tool' is:

Use a bigga breaker bar to 'lock' the tool in place (that's what the sacrificial socket is on there for) and then a bigga torque wrench on the 304ft.lb bolt to tighten. The two smaller holes are for bolts to 'lock' the tool to the pulley. We used it 5 s/c installs and it worked great each time.

cheers,
george.

GeorgeTLC...

You should have a few of that tool made up. I was wondering how the heck I was going to get the nut loose and alos get it tightened as well. IF it was resonable... I am sure alot of people would buy it.

X2 on that tool. I'd prefer a 1/2" drive sacrificial socket because that's what my bigga breaker bar takes.

If not, I'm gonna pursue some thing similar mentioned in the following thread:

http://forum.ih8mud.com/80-series-te...upposedly.html

Only problem is, it seems like the 09213-58012A-01 is a Lexus tool. Hopefully there's a Toyota version of this can be found easily, some where (Dan?).

To tighten the crankshaft socket, you mean? If so, isn't it a simple 30mm (maybe 32mm) socket? I used a 3/4' breaker bar, about 30" from HF ( plus a 24" pipe) and a chain wrench also from HF to tighten that motha on!

I borrowed CDan's mondo torque wrench to check for torque afterward and found out that I tightened it too much using the gorrilla method!

For removal of the bolt and the pulley, might be good to remove the radiator completely for more wiggle room. It's too easy to ruin the fins on the radiator IMO.

Thanks Ali I think it's 30 mm socket I could be wrong. IIRC 32 mm was a bit loose when I had to adjust the TDC during HG job.

Anyway, I'm scared to ask but what's the gorrilla method?

Gorrilla method - breaker bar + 3' cheater tube and another cheater tube over the chain wrench for counter force

With the correct length torque wrench extension one can use a 250 ft/lb torque wrench. Fab an extension with the correct sized socket, drill & file a 1/2" drive hole and you'll save yourself the expense of purchasing a 300+ ft/lb torque wrench that only gets used once in a blue moon.
