Finally

Maybe I should start with re- introducing myself, I joined a couple of month back, looking for info on 3F-Es. That truck I luckily didn't buy, it turned out to be a complete bomb with gearbox and endless starting issues.

So I've finally found the tractor of choice, a HDJ81 VX Ltd. Bog stock, with the "usual" goodies like K294, icemaker, cruise and some aftermarket alloys. Outside it is not in super condition, but just right for work. Inside on the other hand it is like bloody new, the (I guess) first owner had the whole upholstery covered in clear vinyl (don't ask, it's a Fiji thing, I still cringe) so that everything came up fresh and spotless, yay. Will try to put some pics in here with more to follow. I am asking not to comment on the colour, it would have never been my choice if the rest of the vehicle wouldn't be in such fantastic condition.

Plans.... big word... actually getting use to driving such a tanker again would be one. Next, getting the grin of my face. After that, well, we'll see. I mean, I have been vetoed by my family to remove that hidious spoiler on the back. Big service is on the cards as well, always feels better. Getting the CD player to work again, maybe a respray to a colour I actually like. I am writing while thinking here.

This Cruiser will be first and foremost that, a cruiser for the family with space to spare. Work will be secondary. Oh, big on the cards is leeching of somebody that has a copy of the owners manual and other people that will answer my plentiful questions that will come as time goes by and I discover a new switch that I don't know what it is for.... hehehehehe

When it comes to getting info, you might/will find all you're looking for here! Might take some digging to find the info but it's worth it! I agree that the spoiler has to go and the paint has to change but always keep the grin on your face and the thought that you investing in a good thing that will last and stay with you for as long as you want it! As for the CD player, you're better off getting an aftermarket head unit!

Thanks everybody for the warm welcome again, this time with LandCruiser. Bummer about the CD player, I like the original headunit as it suits the dash, but I kinda knew that it would have to go, although I will give it a try

cringing right there with you, sounds awful, but at least it kept the interior spotless.

at LEAST get the "CRUISING" lettering off of there, sheesh.......

nice looking rig, you guys outside the US are so lucky to have the diesel option (jealous I am)

I got a set of manuals last week, parts guy said there were 20+ of the electrical books and a dozen or so FSM's left in stock, when they are gone; gone, and no printing new ones, no idea if that is US stock only, but I bet the story is similar around the world.

I'd keep the 2 tone paint and ditch the tupperware. But I'm a lil odd. I love the 2 tone 80s.
Oh, and welcome .
Damn ferners and their diesel Cruisers.

Frankly, the two tone paint is starting to grow on me. The "Cruising", despite being original hasn't just yet. But despite what I have said earlier, I decided that the paint is exactly between "too good to warrant an immediate respray" and " Just crappy enough not to care about a scratch"! So it'll stay for a while. The CD player still peeves me though. Should have bloody well tested that, but alas, no CD at hand that time. But I fixed the foggies today, just a blown fuse it turns out.

mot, hello again, back this time without a rear A/C, unlike the VX Wagon I was interested in some month back. Would you be able to help me with an owners manual for a JDM Cruiser??? Ehm, preferably english? Not in the mood to buy a kanji keyboard and type it off character for character. Same as I always stare at all the stickers on the inside (What could it be? What is this thing trying to tell me?) I know some Japanese people here, but none well enough to ask to translate all those for me... As well, how easy would it be for you to find an original head unit, Double DIN?

Same colour scheme as mine (93), it stands out from the crowd at least
BTW I stuck a wood dash kit in mine, really improved the interior IMHO

jlbuk, tell me where you got the wood dash kit from, please, actually think it would make hell of a difference. So far I had a hard time finding one for RHD

hehe, it took me over a month of searching, but in the end I found two...

One from Germany (about £50 GBP) and one from Australia (about £120 GBP) - the ausie one is installed, pix in this thread:
http://forum.ih8mud.com/80-series-te...lc-93-lpg.html

The German one is OK, but the Aussie one is REALLY good quality.. will dig out the links and post them in a mo..

Aussie one:
http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI....m=270233257359
website: http://www.dash-design.com/

German one:
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.d...m=200221447845
website: http://www.hartman-tuning.de/home.php?language=en

As you can see, I bought both

Note the ausie one doesn't have switch/heater control surrounds.
It does have bezels for the square switches, but I though it would look a bit weird to install them with no wood around them, so left it as is.

After some searching I found the write up about throttle cable adjustment and tried it out. What a difference!!!!! Big thanks to Randy Farnsworth and anybody else who put that article here.

Tomorrow the Big Girl goes for a fuel pump overhaul after it developed a leak over the weekend. After that new axle seals and brakepads/ flush. Then driveline maintenance, since I read about that as well. Still new to the game... And AC needs to be looked at

Just finished the servicing, all new filters and oil, greasing of all door pivots and locks, new PIAA lights to replace the Cibies, fixed the bumpercorners, cleaned the inside of leftovers from the former owner, replaced some bulbs, some rubbers, got the spare wheel carrier sqeak free, and and and... Quite happy with the rig and myself.

Oh, and I did my first 400km trip, the Big Girl perfomed flawless and was a joy to drive, the whole affair reminded me a lot of my Ute with the 1HDT engine being a lot like its Chev 350, Uphill or downhill not making any difference. Nice!
