Specific oil question. Cary?
This specific Mobil 1 product is much cheaper than any of their other products:
Mobil 1 Turbo Diesel Truck 5W-40 About $20/gal locally. How would it do in a Cruiser engine? Curtis |

Rotella 5w-40 is a very popular oil around here so I imagine the Mobil 5w-40 would work just fine.

Fully synthetic (per the link).
I'm just wondering whether the "turbo diesel" designation means it has a different and/or inferior additive package for our engines. And why it's the cheapest oil in their lineup. Does seem like the Rotella though... That's a (primarily) diesel oil as well, no? Curtis |

I've been using this oil over the last 9 months or so. I've had much less consumption issues than I experienced with the 0W-40
0W-40 was about a quart per 500 miles, now a quart per 2500 miles. __________________ Rising Sun 4 Wheel Drive Club Member 1976 FJ40, A project with little progress. 1985 FJ60, SBC 350, Ranger Overdrive, OME, 33" MT/R, SafariGard bumper with T-max winch. 1997 FZJ80 40th Anniversary, locked and now on 33"s |

I'm currently running the 5W-40 Mobil 1 in my 80 and have no complaints with it. The lifters pump up quickly (even after not starting my truck for 1-2 weeks at a time) so there are no funky noises on startup, and the oil pressure is good in the FL heat. I also haven't noticed any consumption over the ~2000 miles or so I've been running it. I say don't hesitate to run the "Turbo Diesel" blend--your 1FZ qualifies as a hard working engine.
![]() PS: check Wally World for the 5 quart jugs, they're usually the cheapest way to buy M1. __________________ '97 LX450 - 129k, the wanderer '95 Volvo 854 Turbo - 262k, highway star '87 Mustang 5.0 Coupe - 96k, stocker, for sale! |

Great oil, highly recommended. The 5w-40 is relabeled Delvac.
