Specific oil question. Cary?

This specific Mobil 1 product is much cheaper than any of their other products:

Mobil 1 Turbo Diesel Truck 5W-40

About $20/gal locally.

How would it do in a Cruiser engine?

Curtis

Rotella 5w-40 is a very popular oil around here so I imagine the Mobil 5w-40 would work just fine.

Fully synthetic (per the link).

I'm just wondering whether the "turbo diesel" designation means it has a different and/or inferior additive package for our engines. And why it's the cheapest oil in their lineup.

Does seem like the Rotella though... That's a (primarily) diesel oil as well, no?

I've been using this oil over the last 9 months or so. I've had much less consumption issues than I experienced with the 0W-40

0W-40 was about a quart per 500 miles, now a quart per 2500 miles.

I'm currently running the 5W-40 Mobil 1 in my 80 and have no complaints with it. The lifters pump up quickly (even after not starting my truck for 1-2 weeks at a time) so there are no funky noises on startup, and the oil pressure is good in the FL heat. I also haven't noticed any consumption over the ~2000 miles or so I've been running it. I say don't hesitate to run the "Turbo Diesel" blend--your 1FZ qualifies as a hard working engine.

PS: check Wally World for the 5 quart jugs, they're usually the cheapest way to buy M1.

Great oil, highly recommended. The 5w-40 is relabeled Delvac.
