Rear Seat DVD, drop down screen, pictures...

Thought I'd post up some pics of our DVD player in the 80. A lot of people seem to ask if one will fit and how it looks, but we don't get many pics on it. Here's what I quickly threw in ours to go on vacation to the Black Hills last week.

Here's what we have.

Alpine 10.2" DVD Rear Seat Entertainment Package
Model Number: PKGRSE2

# 10.2" WVGA Overhead Monitor with 1.15 Million Pixels
# Built-In DVD/CD Player
# Built-In FM Modulator
# Built-In Dome Light
# Universal Remote Control Included
# Opening Screen and Wallpaper Control
# Auto DVD Play
# Audio Input Level Control
# Auto Dimmer Control
# 2Aux Input / 1 Aux Out
# S-Video Input

I mounted it right where the dome light is. I used the power for the light and grounded right there. You mount a small metal bracket with the fourscrews right into where the dome light screws were. The DVD unit then bolts to that and there you have power.

There is a bezel/trim piece that comes with it so you could get rid of all the gaps and make it look professional, but I just did it real quick before the trip. It's solidly mounted and is still viewable from all the middle/back seats.

The Alpine units is one of the best that I've seen in terms of picture quality. Leagues above the other cheaper brands. We have two wireless headphones so were hear nothing from the kids for hours it makes driving through wyoming tolerable.

You can see where it sits, it's just a little where the sunroof is. You can see that the sunroof doesn't go back far enough to interfere at all. The screen does block your rearview mirror, which for me was fine as the 80 was so full of stuff in the back, I couldn't see out anyways

Onto the pics:

More pics:

A view from the far side looking at the screen: That's Chunk doing the Truffle Shuffle:

And the next I tried to get a good picture of the screen, but my camera isn't that good. The picture is amazingly sharp and clear.

Sloth love Baby Ruth!

Looks nice! My little dude insists on holding his so that he can "control" it, which saves me another install!

You can get it for about $700 now. (at least with a rebate, normally is $800, they are having some Alpine rebates currently.) That only comes with 1 wireless headphone. You'll have to buy extra headphones if you want, but they are cheap and possibly a cable if you want to hear the sound over your car stereo as well if the FM setup isn't working with it.

So for all you are in the $800ish range plus install if you aren't going to do it yourself. if you wait, it may be $900ish range. But the screen and quality is extremely nice compared to the cheaper versions of DVD entertainment setups.

has exta inputs for video games, camera's RCA/ S-video which is cool as well.

I don't know what the heck "chunk" is but I'm sure I'll find out in the next few years!

Nice install Ben. Is the pictured unit "all in one" type of unit? No other hardware in the vehicle? Can you use a wired headphone if desired? Also, did you use screws or some other nuts/bolts type stuff?

Thanks.

LOL, it's "Chunk" from the Goonies. My daughters love that movie.

It's an all in one sorta deal. Only thing you'd need is another wireless headphone if wanted it. If you wanted to use a wired headphone, I'm thinking you could use the auxillary out.

# • 2Aux Input / 1 Aux Out
# • S-Video Input

They have an IPOD interface as well for like $60-70 dollars.

I just used the 4 screws that held in the dome light. They worked perfect for holding the mounting bracket, then the unit bolts to that. Extremely simple. Comes with a remote.

With the four mounting screws and quick disconnect for the power, I can take it out in about a minute or two to put it inside if we aren't going to use for awhile.

Wha??? You've never heard that joke?

Goes a little something like this:

dude1: Oh man, I got so wasted last night I blew chunks.

dude2: yah? so what. I puke all the time.

dude1: No man, you don't understand, Chunks is my dog.

Nope, no swivel, but you don't really need it with this one. The screen doesn't black or fade when you look at it from the sides. If you didn't have a sunroof you could move it farther foward and have an easier angle to view, but my kids didn't complain any.

The nice thing at the moment is I can put it in either rig really quick. Not that I'd let my kids watch it while wheeling, but a long trip would be nice.
