Towing Capacity LX450 vs 80 series

I was doing some research on autotrader comparing the LX450 to the 80 series. There site lists the LX 450 towing capacity at 5000 lbs and the 80 series (same year 1997) at 3500 lbs. Can anybody explain the difference to me?
thanks

as mentioned already -- they're the same.

tow rating pretty much blows, IMO.

That's what I thought, thanks for the feedback. The autotrader site must have some bad info on it. I am looking to pick up a LC or a 450, I want to pull a boat and wanted to make sure there wasn't something substantially different about the two before buying one.

I wonder why the 80 is only rated to 5000 lbs in the US?

Here in the UK the official figure is 3500kg which is almost 8000 lbs and thats only because thats the legal limit with overrun brakes. Fit air brakes and you can go higher...

I regularly tow 3500kgs with my 1-hdt 80 and it manages no problem.

IIRC there are two ratings for the LC, 5000 with the tow package and 3500 without. Most, if not all of the later rigs came with the tow package and all LX's have it, so 5000 for those rigs.

thanks for that last post, that makes much more sense than the "just because" type answers I got before.

Would it be safe to assume if your truck has the factory hitch receiver on it, you have the tow package? I think I saw a tranny cooler in there somewhere as well.........

My LX450 doesn't have the hitch, but does have the tranny cooler. I added a hitch later.

it's my understanding (but I could be mistaken) that all US market 80 series came with the "tow package" bits, plus or minus the tow hitch and harness.
