another cooling thread

i live in las vegas and in the summer it is 100+++ hot. this weekend is supposed to be above 112 . this is wher i was born and have wheeld my entire life. but now i have an 80 to think about. my new child . after a run last week i opened my hood to a blast furnace, almost took my eybrows off..
any way i am looking for way to keep the 80 "my child" cool.
i have started a duel electric fan in the front to help with the a/c
seems to do well. i have repacked my clutch fan. that worked to. you can tell the diffence while driving thats for sure. i need ideas on how to get the heat out from under the hood when you are at a slow crawl. i have thought about marine blowers. even tried a old landcruiser fan to help but id died..

any ideas even off the wall how to vent and 80 engine compartment....or should i call it the lid to the mobile BBQ
i luv this truck and i see heat kill cars every day.. my shop is full of overheated toys that there owners have neglected.....

Put some thick (+10K) fluid in the clutch and blow the hot air out. The next time my clutch is out (soon) it's getting 15K.

I haven't seen 15k, highest I've seen is 10K CST. ALL of my local Toy dealers only have the 3K stuff

The thicker stuff has to be sourced aftermarket, most commonly from a hobby shop, I have 30K in stock!

Two other options are cutting a hole in the hood above the exhaust manifold and pop rivit in some metal louvers. There are a few places on the net that sell different sizes and colors so you can get real close to exactly what you need. Second is to remove the rubber gasket from the back of your hood to open up a space for hot air to get out. Some people have even put spacers/washers between the hood and hood hinge to create more space for the air to get out. The two potential problems with this method is that rain can get in and your A/C intake vents are right where the hot air is coming out. Just leave your A/C on recirculate.

Is it really a problem? If your water temps are OK this is a vehicle designed for extreme conditions. Plenty of 80s are in heavy service in desert environments in stock form.

I'd suggest a snorkel and scanguage instead of hood vents.

Since you asked for ideas....

Hood vents. Search on author=Photoman and SUMOTOY. Both guys have participated in extensive threads with pictures and pro & con discussions. When done well, the vent/louver/scoop can look nice. There have been several threads discussing vents in the bonnet over the years. Searching should yield some good reading.

Hood bracket spacers. I do not remember who did this (Alky?) but they basically lifted the rear edge of the bonnet with spacers to vent the engine bay. Red neck for sure but reversible and effective.

Hood spacer for front. Search for a thread by Alia176. He has a quick and easy way to vent from the front and he only does it when doing low speed trails in the hot months.
