Parking brake upgrade

Does anyone know where I could find a parking brake set like the ones you can get at All-Pro offroad for mini-trucks?

All Pro Off Road

I like this set up, but cannot find it for an 80.

The X-fer case parking brake? Check your local laws first, in many areas of the country this makes a vehicle not legal to run on the road.

I wouldn't call that an upgrade, doubt that it has as much holding power as the stockers.

Not that it matters (it wont fit the 80 anyway) but driveshaft ebrake offers much greater holding ability, as it is multiplied by the gear reduction in the differential.

That maybe true in theory, but I have never seen one that worked well in real life.

When properly adjusted, the hand brake works fine, in my experience.

my problem is the current parking brake is junk, and if I am going to put more money into it, then I would like to have it be more of an upgrade. Has anyone tried this in one way or another?

I think the big thing with wheel-end e-brakes as opposed to driveline ones is redundancy.
If you mess up a driveline e-brake, that's it. If you mess up a wheel-end one, you can make the other work without it.
Just my 20 pesetas.

You mean, YOURS is junk? Because the factory one is great if you keep it maintained. Have you tried cleaning and adjusting the factory brake? Mine was junk too... until I cleaned and adjusted it. Now it's great.

I cleaned mine to where it move properly, but I have an issue of when I go around turns it has a catching sound. It is the e-brake shoe slightly rubbing. Also it does not old as well as I would wish. How do I go about adjusting it to eliminate the rubbing, and get a better hold. I tried adjusting using the access hole on the rotor.

Did you remove the brake rotor?

If you did not remove the brake rotor you may have dirt/ mud/ debris build up behind the rotor, which is fouling the pads. (this was my problem- no amout of adjustment would make that go away, I had to remove the rotor, clean the assembly and pads, re-install- re-adjust, and now it works great).

See this thread that I recently resurrected:

http://forum.ih8mud.com/80-series-te...djustment.html

Mine didn't hold at all. After proper adjustments, it's the best parking brake I've ever had. As Doc mentioned, if you have noise (and are sure it's the brake), pull the rotor and clean. RTs directions are perfect for what you want. No $$$ needed.

Also use the advanced search feature for issues like this. That is how I found the above thread and saved myself a bunch of time!

Good luck!

I recently replaced the rear rotors and pads, and did that adjustment while doing the maintenance, but I still have the dragging around turns. Could it be I have loose bearings in my rear axle causing movement?

For diagnosis purposes, how do you know it's coming from the rear?

And how do you know it's coming from the parking brake?

If you did the adjustments, are you still experiencing problems with your parking brake or does it operate properly?
