Tranny fluid change on truck with 210k miles on it??

I was talking to my local shop (does odds and ends for me when I don't have time to wrench) about my next tranny service. Truck will have 210,000 miles on it when that is due. That fellow doesn't like the idea of changing the fluid on high milage vehicles as he has had them fail right after that, and then he gets blamed for it. I know this is a common occurance, but my truck had the last tranny fluid change at 185k miles, and it was flushed at 156k mi. and changed at 133k mi. and flushed at 110k mi. I feel like it ought to be fine since the current fluid isn't burned, etc. and it drives fine now. No odd symptoms at all.

I guess I'll do it myself, but the question is.......

Should I really worry about doing this based on the truck's service history???

I understand his concern, but this isn't the odd vehicle that has been neglected.

Thoughts ??

i dont think i would do a flush, but a drain and fill should cause no problems. I have done it multiple times on mine, with over 300k

Sometimes shops do a flush with a machine and it kicks up dirt & causes problems. You want to do a passive flush. First drain the pan, drop it, and clean the screen. Next refill, pull a line and turn on the vehicle and let a couple quarts drain into a container. Add a couple more quarts, and repeat the process several times. After 15-20 quarts the fluid should look pretty fresh.

If you do a search there are several threads with full details.
