Upgraded Bumper. *Pics*
So in welding class I worked with aluminum and built an electric car and fixed a solar car, then for the last month I had time for my own stuff so I upgraded my bumper. MIG'd it all, actually. I was hoping to arc some of it, but ran out of time!
So I went from this: ![]() to this: ![]() Sorry for the cell phone pics! I really wanted to cover my lights, around here you get a lot upside down saplings that snap back and just bash your head lights in. I've already had to replace that parking light, $75 or something. In the pics it looks like it sticks out on the side, but it really doesn't. It sits about a half a inch out. I've never had a problem hitting something I thought I wouldn't. And the headlights shine just fine! Some more pics: Here, I'm working on the right side light cover, tacked. ![]() Another view of the headlight cover:

That's serious grill protection. Your truck weigh 10k lbs now?

My wife took one look at it and she said you should weld a dead VW bug to it. To serve as a warning to all others that dare cross your path.

Wow, you guys have vehicle or safety inspections up there? Any worry about that?
Definitely beefy. The main bar beneath is the same height as the frame. I don't do a lot of rock crawling anyway and I don't have any sliders, so I think it keeps me from going over that big rock that would scrape up my under carriage.
I don't know of any vehicle safety inspection stuff. Even if there was, I would still get my inspection. ![]() It weighs, I'd say..75lbs? I can lift it and put it on myself. Its not as heavy as it looks. ![]() There are many deer accidents here, so many cars ruined or people hurt, so I figure I'd make sure my car wouldn't flinch in a situation like that.

Wow....you guys are really nice.
I think that might be the ugliest thing I've ever seen. I'm sorry, I don't mean it personally, it's just so....unaesthetically pleasing. Looks very functional though. __________________ HOKIES UNITED Arya Ebrahimi '94 FZJ80 200k miles, locked, 285 Revo's, ARB Bullbar, Hella 4000's, homemade drawers My mini-truck buildup thread...updated 9/10 Mini-truck's first trip!! He did a good job following the lines of the truck. Everything is perfectly straight and looks pretty good to me. The only thing I personally would change is the bottom half of the bumper. I don't like the way it sits so low aesthetically speaking. __________________ 94 FZJ80/FJ80 mutt 315 Maxxis Bighorn, Rear Aussied, and stripped. Quote from Willy T. Yes, in preventing the slider damage and corresponding forward movement he was talking about.
I'd add a bit to make it a snowplow while you are at it

huh. that's a big, burly bumper. for sure.
I'm leaning towards something a tad less large, more streamlined, and with a winch. but you've got to admit that for frontal protection, this bumper is going to be hard to beat. __________________ 91 fj80 w/ 93 1HD-T. well I do have the FJ60 Landcruiser text already in the plasma cutter I use. I was going to cut out a big piece and mount it somewhere, or some toyota text, but again, rain out of damn time!
Thinking about calling this bumper "The Cattle Guard", or if I were to sell it "CattleGard"

There are a lot worse vehicles around me. Sometimes the cops while use it for a reason to pull you over, but I haven't had a problem yet, drove to NJ with it on as well.
btw, Newburgh is "The 6th Borough". not really though, its just the saying.

If you would angle that lower part back like you see on most bumpers it would help to deflect a deer rather than grab it and probably cause more damage. I know you've probably put a lot of work and time into that bumper but it would look really sweet if you figured out a way to bring the bottom part up higher.
