Is this part causing my THUMP?

While under my truck Saturday I noticed this mount on the transfer case. Is the bolt supposed to have all this clearance around it?

I've been noticing what feels like play coming up the shifter during acceleration. I have for a while guessed there was a bushing or rubber mount needing to be replaced, but haven't really looked too hard for the source. I just happened to be under the truck when I noticed this. It isn't loose at all, but it just doesn't look right to me.

Any thoughts???????

Don't know if it's supposed to be that way, but mine is like that too. Any thump or clunk that I get is usually my front driveshaft telling me that it needs grease....

I think what you're showing there is a "mass damper" - an added weight to decrease vibrations of a specific frequency. Nothing to worry about, it's meant to move/shake around a little to absorb or counter-act the vibrations.

If you describe your 'thump' a little more, maybe someone would have some experience and be able to help more.

Dan.

That is how that "mount" should look, it's just a vibration dampener.
