SOS - Calling all Cruiserheads in the Tampa Bay Area - FREE PIZZA and BEER!
Hi there my friends,
ANYONE UP FOR A WRENCH PARTY? FREE PIZZA and BEER !!! ![]() I'm looking for any Cruiserheads in the Tampa Bay area with the tools and the knowledge to help teach me how to do some repairs on my 80 series LX! I will supply the pizza and beer for all those who can help out with this and I will come to you - no gas needed! I like to consider myslf a pretty mechanically inclined person, but truck maint. is just not something I have had the opportunity to get into. I know the info on the IH8MUD site is out of this world (I have utilized it where I can, and the main reason for buying my baby in the first place), but being my LX is also a DD for me and the family ![]() , I just can't afford to mess anything up on my own costing me more! Parts are expensive and I jut can't afford the labor costs most shops want. So, I am trying to organize a wrench party for the Tampa Bay area for any of the following that anyone knows about and can help with:1. Reseal Front Knuckle!! 2. Brakes! 3. EGR Valve Error Code. 4. Something I'm sure that I am missing??? ![]() Anyone who can help out with any of these, your assistance would be greatly appreciated! Even with pizza and beer, I would owe you if you ever needed my help with a project (obviously for hands, not the know-how...lol)! I see the forums of the groups out west getting together all the time for this type stuff, and I was hoping the Bay area would also be interested. Plus, I don't get my rig out much, and I would love to meet new people with similar interests! I just need help getting my LX up to par so I can keep up with you. If you can help, please post a reply or pm me. I can't express enough the need and my thanks! Thank you for reading! JB __________________ Stock '96 LX450, Keeping the Dream Alive

S.O.B. If I weren't in NC for the summer I'd be near the Hyde Park area. Got a good garage w/ air and some tools. Woulda been easy to knock out those 3 (4?) things.
Good luck finding another cruiserhead in Tampa to help you wrench though. I do believe there are a few. ![]() __________________ '96 LX450, 33" Revos, OME lifted, etc, etc ![]() Love the life you live, live the life you love. -Bob Marley Selfishness is not living as one wishes to live, it is asking others to live as one wishes to live. -Oscar Wilde Firefox users, get your youtube on!

Not sure. It was listed on the inspection report I got when I was thinking of buying the truck. I think it has something to do with the hub?!? Like I said, unfortunatlely I'm an idiot when it comes to these things...sorry!

You mean doing the front axle service? repacking the birfields and all that?
I'd help, but I'm on the wrong side of the country. __________________ Lane Anderson 1991 FJ80, Red, 249k, 3FE Powa ----- Lifted, flareless, LineX, 31" BFGs, Slee stuff, Dual batts, HIRs, OBA, GPS, headlight buzzer, couple lights, clear/tinted lenses, 100 Series bling, NLXTACY's garage opene, air horns __________________________________________

The knuckle service you mentioned is discussed here: http://forum.ih8mud.com/80-series-te...build-faq.html Maybe you could take a pic or two and we could help you determine how soon it needs to be addressed - ie maybe it can wait until you find the $ or someone to help. Do you have any other symptoms (noises etc) that are related to the knuckles/steering? The brakes (assuming it just needs pads) are really easy to replace. You only need basic tools and we could certainly walk you through it. The EGR code can be left alone without hurting anything until you have lots of time on your hands. |

Pics
...and these are pics of the Driver side wheel/axle.
Yes, noise. I am hearing a clanking/clicking noise when I turn the wheels...mainly making a left hand turn. Tires are wearing bad on the left front wheel....4x as much. Other than that it is hard to say. I need to get tires as well because of the uneven wear, so it's hard to say if any of the other road noise is not just the bad tires. Thanks again for the help! __________________ Stock '96 LX450, Keeping the Dream Alive

As calstyl said, you need a knuckle job. Sooner rather than later since you mentioned the clanking/clicking noise. You might as well do the brake pads at the same time. Parts from cruiserdan will run you around $220 plus $60 or so for the brake pads. You'll need another $40 or so worth of grease and oil. I'm too far away or I'd be happy to help. Have you tried asking for help in the Florida cruiser club section? Here's a link.

JB,
Do some search on here for what type lube. You can put some lube in the square hole for now. You can also get DVD on how to do front job. Do a search on it too. Good luck. |
