Cup holder solution for '91-'94?
![]() I had an idea watching my Matrix's rear cupholders (left side of the pic): wouldn't they fit the dashboard of a '91-'94 series 80? Some mangling would be required but as there are no airbags in those rigs, the plastic in front of the passenger is free for all to sawzall, right? No, I won't do it myself ![]() __________________ 12/94 FZJ80, 132k, stock but carbon neutral. Gallery "You can't fight in here, this is the war room!" FOR SALE: Infant car seat |

What is the fascination with cup holders here? What is this, the 100 forum? Put your can in the holder by the shifter, larger cups in the center console or by your elbow. Done. End of story.
Passengers can frickin' hold their damn drink. __________________ Eric P. 1993 Landcruiser, 190K miles. Lifted, Locked, Slidered, Slee'd, Snork'd, Winched, bobbed. Daily driver. ROTW Tall Corn Cruisers- El Presidente. |

Doc, thanks for the kind answer.
![]() I personnaly don't care about cupholders, but it seems to be one of the accepted design flaws of the 80, according to replies on that thread. So as this forum should be a constant brainstorm, I just added my 2 cents and thought that it warranted a separate thread. __________________ 12/94 FZJ80, 132k, stock but carbon neutral. Yeah, I wasn't really trying to bust your chops- My sarcasm didn't come across properly.
I've never really had an issue with the cup-holders, however. __________________ Eric P. 1993 Landcruiser, 190K miles. Lifted, Locked, Slidered, Slee'd, Snork'd, Winched, bobbed. Daily driver. ROTW Tall Corn Cruisers- El Presidente. |

hasn't anyone installed a kegerator in an 80 yet? just run a hose to each seat so everyone can drink from a tap. boom! no more cups.
but seriously, my cups and bottles tip and spill easily so I can understand the need for a more secure place to set your beverage __________________ 1993 FZJ80 - stock, locked, abs, leather, working on baseline for now 02 Tacoma 4x4 as DD and work truck |

You could do like me and get one of those 1.09 cupholders that are supposed to fit in the window channel, and put the end thats supposed to go into the window seal into the ashtray (a useless feature if your not a smoker) Its a little bouncy so what you put in there could use a lid, but otherwise let the passenger use the console hole and you use the one by your elbow. The one in front of the shifter in my opinion is almost completely useless.

Wait, that's a cupholder in front of the shifter? I keep my compass, stock cigarette lighter and gate remote in there. .)
Anyone ever thought of sticking a cupholder on the front of your seat? The crotch vent would keep it cool in the summer and warm in the winter. Just another out there thought. __________________ Jonathan M. It looks like they would slide under the plastic and would put it back by the seat sitting on the floor just like they show in the picture... Being 6'4" that would not be that far of a reach to grab a drink and you could move it to the p/s if needed.
![]() At least I think it would work Might be a little bit of a stretch... What do you think???

This wouldn't keep me from doing it. If I really want to stop my legs are strong enough to smash any bottle, cup, or whatever in the rare case it falls out. I've had a bottle roll under my pedals more than once and was able to stop. Although it is a little scary.

I emailed Mike (guy who makes cupholder) with a photo of my LC to see what he thought about it working in an 80. I will post up as soon as I hear something

I got an email from Mike at ultimate cup holders:
I’m not sure about the Land Cruiser. As general guidance, for it to work you'd want at least 5 inches and no more than about 6.5 inches of height at the side of the tunnel measured from the floor to the lower edge of the console trim where they'd slip under. You’d want to take the measure at a point near the front edge of the seat where it meets the tunnel where the holder would be installed. Also, the side of the tunnel should be relatively vertical. Doesn't have to be a perfect 90 degrees, but 45 degrees isn't going to work very well. Last, there needs to be a good spot for it, so seat adjustment handles, an irregularly shaped area at the floor, etc., can be in the way in some cars. The only difference in the various models is the length of the arm that slips under the edge of the trim that sits over the tunnel. The versions for the BMWs are about 8.5” tall overall and the versions for the Porsche are about 1” shorter. So, from the point where the arm would slip under if yours is on the taller side of those measures, then the BMW E39 would be the better, if shorter, then the Porsche. If you can check the measures against the above I should be able to give you a better idea which if any would be better. Also at some point soon I’ll have another similar but more universal version but that’s probably a few months away at this point. Thanks, appreciate your interest. Please let me know if you have any questions and I'll be happy to help. __________________________________________________ ________________ I am out on the road so I don't have access to my LC to get the measurements/pics for a couple of weeks. As soon as I can get and talk to Mike I will repost __________________ jr -1996 Unlocked -Arb Front bmpr -AVN 7000, Rockford Fostgate Amp, Viper remote start/alarm, & Boston Speakers -Auto dimming mirror -Husky liner -Waterproof seat covers (and a list of mods to long to list) Be good or be good at it

you could get around that 45* hang up by building a spacers of some sorts so the cupholders could work @ the 90* angle. I didn't feel like reading the whole thread again but did you look at the Land Rover cupholder idea. I've seen several people talk about these with the only complaint being that it doesn't match the color very well. I'd just scuff it up and paint it black.
