Locking hood

Maybe I am just paranoid but I really would like a locking hood. Right now if anyone gains access to the truck, the hood and gas tank is a lever away. Now for gas tank thieves around here have taken to drilling the gas tanks and then draining the gas. Not much can be done about that.

But for the hood, it would be good to be able to lock it. WOLO used to make a hood lock that seemed pretty beefy but haven't seen one in years. Some Jeeps have them but they won't work for 80s.

Now I HAVE seen on some older Lexus models (ES and LS) that have what looks like the same gas door/hood levers BUT they also have in an added keyed lock. I would love to use one of those but no idea if it would work.

So am I being a complete idiot (don't answer that, I know the answer) and what, if any, solutions have you used/seen?

In the 80s (the decade), there was a metal spiral (screwdriver-like) you could plug inside the tank neck that would prevent any hose from entering. Wondering if it's still around?

Hehe, I remember those. Actually PepBoys use to sell them. Around here we got HOA bulletins that people's trucks and cars are being drilled to get the gas out. In 4 square blocks almost a dozen people parked outside were hit...that I know of.

Glad I park in garage.

I think there was an advert for exterior locks (doors, hood, hatch) in a few of the Overland Journal mags. I'll look when i get home.

Interesting. I see those on plumber's trucks all the time. That is an interesting option although its a good visual deterrent, still looking for something a little more passive.

x2 on the trucks that haul some now expensive copper pipes or wires.
But wondering if those locks on a "regular" vehicle such as an 80 won't have a side effect: catching the eye of a con, making him/her think that something really valuable's inside, no?
