HDJ81 Model Year Differences..

Hi there,
Total newbie here. Looking at getting a '90 HDJ81 and was wondering what the differences are (if any) between the year models 1990, 1991, 1992 and 1993. What I mean is differences in the factory specs (e.g. suspension, engine..etc) for each year not vehicle options or package like Vx or Vx LTD.

Also, is there a place online to download the Owner's Manual? I found the Engine and Chassis manuals (which are the ones harder to find usually!) but not the Owner's Manual..

Cheers,
Ahmed

Only BIG change is 92.5 and newer have the electronic A442 transmission with a TPS on the injection pump. Older models had fully mechanical A440 tranny.

Rear shoulder belts were found after 91. That's all I can think of off the top of my head.

Oh, one more thing - I believe it's 93 and up that have larger front and rear brakes.

You get the basic 1HD-T (12 valve) engine, but with the '93- you get the 1HD-FT with 24 valves, I believe.

Also, the suspension set-up might be a bit different (post '93 might sit a bit taller).

You'll get the not-so-useful (to me) elec. suspension system (Normal vs Sport) with VX or VX Limited. You'll still get your center console fridge/cooler with VX Limited. You also might get a cruise control with the Limited as well (Not sure though).

Not entirely sure on the 2nd-row seat/shoulder belt situation.
I have done the 3point/shoulder belt modification, but not sure if all of the HDJ's came with only lapbelts in the back.

You could get the "cold climate" package with bigger batteries and/or starter/altermator (don't quote me on these though), as well as the radiator shutter. It "should" have a sticker under the hood, close to the front indicating it though ("Snow Version" maybe).

ANYWAY, I'm sure I've messed it up or I'm missing something.

Good luck!

Here in Panamá 90 - 04/93 come rear with SF axle and drum brakes .. after that all come with 16 wheels, rear FF and disc brakes, that it's nice to me.

But it's all a matter of taste and budget .. VX-LTD lockers !, rear AC, sub tank, sun roof etc ..

Ok, MOT, let's see what else we can pick apart... kidding, only kidding. Great info!

We haven't mentioned fender flares- didn't they get larger somewhere around 92? My half cut was a 92 and had the larger flares- it was an early 92 with the A440.
