Depends on your location as well. It would never sell around here for 7K.
Craigslist is full of Land Cruisers right now as folks move to something more "gas friendly". 4000-4500 is probably top dollar for a nice 94 a lot of places. __________________ Flintknapper: '97 Land Cruiser, Moonglow Pearl Chocolate Lab (Kota), I miss you. ΜOΛΩΝ ΛΑΒΕ (come and take them) |

who cares if they laugh? actually more a good thing if it means that you are not offering too much to start with... What you got to worry about if they smirk and accept your offer right away...

offer as little as it takes... you never know. Put an offer out there and tell them to think about it and get back to you... if gas jumps a nickel this weekend they will call you. Seriously, it is the rare dealership that wants a 14 year old gas guzzler on their lot. You hold all the cards in this deal. It may be a stellar summer to begin collecting cruisers!

Mike's right on. They want that thing outta there. Unless it's supremely extra-clean, has all the records, etc., I'd start at $3500. You might be surprised, but be prepared to walk away.

My advice is to not be prepared to walk but to actually walk away. I always give them my offer (however ridiculous that is) and to then hand them my card and tell them to call if they want to sell it. They always call. I don't always get it for what I offered but they always call.
Normally I don't spend more than 10 minutes in the dealership talking after I've looked at the vehicle and decided that I want it. __________________ 1985 4Runner - ROTM WarDamnEagle's 85 4Runner 1997 FZJ80 - locked and stock 2007 HDJ100 - DD .....and these are just the Toyotas |

KBB trade in is like 4k dont expect a dealer to lose money to sell a car, I bought mine for $4200, in my area that was a steal (not many Cruisers around and everyone selling them wants 2 arms and 3 legs) I looked at 2 92's before finding my 94 and both were asking 4500+ both were also RUFF (one had $1000 in exhaust worn alone that needed to be done, thats before the a/c problem and the HUGE oil leaks, but I wish I could get ahold of the ARB ft bumper that was on it!)

follow-up
Yeah i called the stealership spoke to the guy, hes like "make an offer" and i said 4k out the door including taxes, the rig is in the chicagoland area, i've been on the craigslist here and even indiana... not finding the deals like you might have out by you....he asked for my # and said hes going to take my offer to his boss....i'll call him back and re-affirm my offer, that way he'll put the pressure on his boss.
Im not so sure i'll be doing enough serious off-roading to care if it has lockers or not, but it looks like it does, interior looks very clean as well and as far as the front end goes...i have no idea. logic tells me that for them dealership to wanna hang to a rig that old it must have a steal for them when they took it in and the quality must be up there. So i'll keep my fingers crossed. Thanks for all the input ![]()

However, having exactly the same rig as the one you're eyeing, very curious to see how it plays out. Good luck with the purchase.

the main thing to do is to be polite, leave them without hard feelings, and especially give them a way to get ahold of you easily later on to pursue the matter. They just might.
Of course, you may end up losing on a great deal that way if somebody comes up with a better offer in the mean time, but OTOH, you will likely never get a bad deal because of rushing in at too high an offer, which is more important IMHO. __________________ '97: 88K, 3xlock, Custom HD roo bar for sale, 285 MT/Rs on steelies, Hanna sliders, 851+1.5"/863/N73/N74E/SD24, ARB bull with M12, Kaymar with duals, Kaymar rack, Slee TC skid, 2m/440, more stuff, loose nut behind the wheel!) I think $7K is a bit too high for an 80 at this time. Around here, they are being offered for around $3800 (for a '93) to $4500 for a '95. All are from the owners. Be patient as they will come out from woodwork even more because the gas prices will only go up.
It took me 6 months to find mine 5 years ago. Good luck! __________________ '97 "Sage" FZJ80 40th #1885 ARB, OME "Heavy", 305/70 BFG M/Ts on Welds '91 RN90 ARB, Warn M8000 265/70 16 SSRs '85 RN65, in building mode |

I would not call him back. If you don't hear from them for a couple of days they may figure you are just fishing. Stop in and see them in person. Let them know you are ready to do the deal. Car salesmen can give a rats ass about a phone call. They absolutely hate to see you walk off the lot. Reaffirm your offer in person. They will give you a line about your offer being below thier cost and you need to up it. Just tell them you underrstand they can't sell it below thier cost but they must have paid over market. Thank them and walk away. It is unlikely they gave more in trade than your offer. They may let you walk but you won't make it far before your phone rings. Been there, done that.
Sounds like a good find. At $4,500 you should be happy. __________________ Fly Rod '95 FZJ80 with stuff. I have a double handed rod... ![]() Jefferson State Cruisers |

Agree with Fly Rod. Don't call them back, let them call you.
Also, you better find out for sure if it has lockers or not. Check the left side of the steering wheel. __________________ 96 LX450 Locked, 285/75/16 BFG A/T, ARB, Warn 9000i, CDL+7 Pin, Dual battery trays w/ Slee style battery isolator, Auto up window, Landtank MAF & seat rails, LR cup holder, George's LEDs, Slee light harness, Deere bulbs, Clearshield headlight film, Slee style aux fuse box, Maglite holder. |

No Sir, check underneath the vehicle at the diffs. It is the only "sure" way to know if it is actually equipped with lockers (short of driving it). My own vehicle is a good example. I have the rotary switch in place in preparation of putting lockers in at some future date. Someone just looking into my vehicle... might assume it is locked, but it is not (yet).
