Simple Engine Saver Mod.

This mod should offer peace of mind to all. System actively monitors coolant in the rad hose where coolant is required.
The installation looks easy.

This tells you when your low on coolant? wouldn't a temp sensor be more effectiove to tell you what the temp is? when your low it would show hotter?

Until there is no coolant and it shows nothing on the temp gauge.

I fitted one of these last year to my 80. It worked well for a few months, until the cable deteriorated and snapped right at the section where it meets the probe.
It runs an audible and visual self-test on startup, so you know it works. It lets you know if your loosing coolant because the probe is in the top rad hose and once it loses contact with water/coolant it alarms. Large machinery often have a similair sort of device fitted. I'm not going to fit another one as i'm confident of my cooling system integrity and i have mech temp gauge in the top radiator hose and temp sensor on the thermostat housing.

I dont like cutting/compromising an otherwise simple hose in order insert a plastic unit. KISS.

Me 2. I do like the concept though. I'm not a gadget freak, but if $50 bucks saves me a $5k motor rebuild, that's sound leveraging.

How about modifying the upper tank of the radiator and installing the sensor in a hardened point at the appropriate height for it to do it's job?

Lots of ways to do this, cutting hoses, drilling and or soldering the tank. This type of system is OEM on most of our underground mining units, trust me these machines take more pounding than you can imagine, mind you the units only cost around $1000,000.00 each

Honestly, why would you not cut a hose?

You now have 2 hoses where you had one and 4 clamps where you had 2. There are enough parts and hoses and such under the hood already without adding more.

You don't need to cut your radiator hose at all to install this unit. The probe slips under the hose and you use the clamp on the radiator to secure it. Some sealant is required to seal it all up, but that is all. The stock radiator hose stays intact. Mine failed where i bent the cable 180 degrees around and i think it was just fatigued.
Since then i've been running a mech temp gauge probe in the top hose and i've had no dramas in the last year. I didn't like the idea of chopping the hose in half, but it works brilliantly and yeah, i have 4 clamps and 2 hoses now, but it's been done properly so it's all good.
