Lexus Battery vs. ?
Disclaimer: as an FJ62 owner since '90, I've gone through a # of batteries & hold down brackets.
![]() LONG AGO I switched to Optima (red top only option back then) to avoid corrosion & shock to the price of another new OEM hold down bracket (ere I knew of CDAN). About the time the Optima finally died, I scored 2 Champion VORTEX when Monkey Wards closed for ~$75 @! __________________ ![]() Joe aka 4XODDIC ( allow me to pronounce that for you: 4 By, Odd Eye, See! ) aka the One Eyed Guy Owning Toyotas Since 1975 TLCA 8537 99-00 Tundra LTD 4X4; 01-90 Samurai; 07-88 TinTop Samurai; 08-97 LX450 Last edited by 4xoddic; 05-31-08 at 09:51 AM. grrrr, continued . . . .
Believe that was circa 2001.
When I bought my 2nd FJ62, I scored a stainless steel hold down tray & swapped the OEM into the old FJ62 (now on its 3rd bracket set). When one of the Vortexs went south this year, I installed an Exide Orbital. In April 08 we bought a 97 LX450 in which the Lexus dealer had installed a new Lexus battery. Are these batteries prone to corrosion? Or is the problem more related to FJ62s? As I'm about the sell the FJ62s, I figured on swapping an Exide into the LX450 or using it in a Samurai some year soon. If the Lexus (brand) battery is very high quality, not prone to causing corrosion, I'll keep it in the LX450. Otherwise, it will ride out in style in an FJ62. Toyota's factory replacement batteries (both divisions) are made by Interstate Batteries to Toyota's specifications (they have a higher amperage and greater reserve capacity than the "regular" version). They are very good batteries.

THANX Romer & CDAN
The FJ62 will leave with a new (low cost) alternative.

Are you 100% on that? I frequently purchase 27F's from a local dealership and theirs are identicle (sans labels) to batteries I get from WalMart, which are made by Johnson Controls. Both carry "Made in Mexico" stickers, similar manufacturer codes, etc...

Gotmud,
Individual dealers can source batteries from wherever they want = generally lower quality. If they source the official Toyota P/N battery for you, I think that's what Dan is referring to. Just like you can find dealers who will sell you parts from outside the Toyota parts system without necessarily pointing it out to you. I bought the Interstate version of my LX450 battery directly from Interstate. Six years later and it is still going strong.

Yes, I am sure they are Interstates (they are delivered to us by an Interstate truck and Interstate handles the warranty exchange units). They could be made in Mexico, it may depend on the proximity to the Mexican battery plant. The ones I have on the rack right now do not have made in Mexico stickers on them. I would not be surprised if Johnson Controls makes Interstate's batteries.

Gotmud,
You realize that because you challenged Dan on something that he is intimately familiar with and derives his livelihood from that you are now hexed and your truck will soon suffer catastrophic failure. __________________ 1997 LX 450 190000kms, locked, 285 Revos, Supercharged.
