Hi, I'm a newbie and I...

1) Read the FAQ. Many times.
2) Got one of those silver star thingys.
3) Ordered, received and read the FSM and EWD. Many times.
4) Took a look at my recently purchased 94 FZJ80 with the rose colored glasses off. Glad I made it back to Chicago from Seattle without breaking down.
5) Ordered parts from cruiserdan.
6) haven't taken any decent pictures yet.
7) Still searching for something to take this green stuff that is all over the body, its sort of metallic and might be mistaken for paint.

Hope I can add to the treasure trove of knowledge and hilarity that is IH8MUD. Thanks again to all that make this a must-read every morning.

- Allan

Wow...just think what this place would be like if more newbs were like you!

Let me say welcome and THANK YOU! haha. This is a great place but rather addicting...fair warning.

I am curious as to what your plans or thought are on your #7 above. I have the same substance and am getting rather itchy to do something drastic with it.

Welcome!

Ignore the greenpaint racists... I'm green and proud of it - green and black gives that paramilitary look I love, probably instilled as 'cool' in me at a young age from growing up an army brat. Especially the 80 dark green, which is almost black anyway. You can keep your sterile white ones that need constant baths...

We might be able to help you take that metalicy looking green gunk off. You should come down to the either the Cliffs or the Badlands off road park with us. 4rnr here hosts and event at the Cliffs towards the end of July. Here's a link.

Welcome!

Have you hooked up w/ any of the other windy city guys?

Come on down to Badlands in Attica, IN sometime when there's a group from the Hoosier Cruisers crew. Most don't wheel too hard, but we make up for that by drinkin' a lot back at camp afterward!

Welcome and great job on the research. As far the debris on your paint try using a clay bar which should make your paint smooth as silk.

An acid bath, followed by a complete repaint in a pleasing colour, which would be pretty much every colour other than 6M1.

Welcome.

Good to be here

Thanks for making me feel welcome everyone.

I did find one picture I took with my phone, its not all-inclusive but I can say that its a stock truck, including what looked like the original belts (lots o' little cracks waiting to leave me stranded, can't believe I missed that on inspection...) and what had to be the original spare tire (easily the worst spare tire I have ever seen in my life, replaced on the road back to Chicago.)

On the to-do list, besides replacing those belts, are a fluid baseline, new windshield, suspension upgrade, and a bit of armor up front. The budget might allow for new tires too, which like oil and coolant seem to generate slight differences of opinion here.

Looking forward to many many hours of time lost to perusing and adding to the MUD world.

traxman, I'd love to scrape a bit of paint but I don't think the rig will be ready for that kind of action by then - from those pics I'd need a lift, sliders and tires all installed and ready to go before I headed for that trail. If there is some less hard core wheeling there I'd welcome a chance to tear off those running boards....

Welcome, another '94 TLC and '02 TDI person....

Mileage and maintenance record might be the deciding factor for future work, my '94 needed a few little things when I purchased it with 118k miles on it. Now with 132k it still needs more parts and attention but hasn't left me stranded, CDan will be my buddy...
