Code 71 AGAIN!!? Pry the 9mm out of my hands!

I know I've posted about this before, but I'm getting desperate.
I keep getting the CEL w/ Code 71.

Here is what I've replaced recently:
  • VSV
  • Modulator
  • EGR Temp sensor
  • EGR valve
  • all vacuum lines
  • air intake tube

Here's what I've done:
  • Thoroughly cleaned throttle body including EGR port and small pinhole ports on top
  • cleaned all metal passage ways, including tube through the intake
  • Done FSM tests on EGR valve, modulator, and vsv even though they were knew. All passed.
  • Double checked all vacuum passages to make sure nothing was clogged, even though all the hoses are new

My goodness, is there anything else I can freakin' do? There's nothing else to even replace!! I'm ready to throw in the towel.

I talked to another guy with a 94 w/ 170 k and he's never even had a cel. What the hell gives!

A new ECU might help.

I have checked the gas cap and it seems to seal. I get a good pressure swoosh every time I open the tank.

You can't be serious. If so, screw the light. I'll just chalk it up to having another "interior light" for mood and whatnot.

Just want to be sure. But have you reset the ECU to clear the codes after all of your efforts. If so, how long does it take for the code to reappear.

My 71 code first appeared after I cleaned my throttle body while on the vehicle. Upon start-up, the cleaner must have gotten into the EGR system and thew the code. Started with the modulator, it checked OK but I replaced it with the blue top and have not seen the code since (2 years ago).

Thanks for the reply. The CEL comes on in just about 3-4 days of normal driving, which means about 10-20 miles a day. The one thing I have noticed is that the whole system had a fair amount of carbon/goo in it. Its all clean now though.
Could a dirty intake cause the problem?
