newly lifted fj80(vibration problems)

I have recently lifted my fj80, well i had it lifted. It now has a total of 7 inches+. It drives really good. However, there is major vibration during accellerating and deceleration. The place were i had tghe work done have replaced the front driveshaft converting it to a cv joint style and it helped a litttle but the vibration still happens around 50mph and higher.Does anyone have any suggestions on how to fix. Also is there any way to move the rear steering bar and move it in front of the axle.

can you please provide some more details?
  • what was the manufacturer of the lift?
  • what model did you have installed?
  • other than the dc drive shaft, did you install anything else? shocks? castor correction?
  • did you adjust the panhards?
  • did you install new, rear upper control arms?
  • what about tires? same or new?

do some searching on here and you might find some answers and also... post some damn pics and welcome to mud

this forum can be a wealth of info... take your time to search and ask some detailed questions if you cant find your answers via search and they guys are usually all over it.

you probably have some drive angle problems and neither front drive shafts like them. What did you do for caster correction?

you need a double cardon joint on the front driveshaft to make up for the increased angle due to the lift..

I think he said they did replace the front shaft with a "cv joint style" shaft and it still doesn't like it. I agree with Peepers and Landtank--need mo info.

The lift is a custom lift. It is a three link in the front and a four in the rear. I have had the front shaft replaced and i have new rancho 9000 on it. still running the same tires. the front and rear drive angles are within two degrees. the 80 drives good there is just a slight vibration accompanied with a very troubling rattle upon acceleration and deceleration, especially when the vehicle is coasting and it seems the rear shaft is floating. i have 180,000 miles on the 80. My rear shaft slip yoke and axle slines are worn and you can twist them. could that cause all the sound.

U joints replaced after the lift?

I didn't replace mine when I installed the J and then 6" lift...

But the old stock height U joints soon made their desire for replacement evident.

Replaced those....and the 55-60mph vibes went away.

If there's play in the splines in the driveshaft, that could definitely cause your issue.

Cody's question about replacing the u-joints is good, too.
