a/c temp cut switch

I have figured out what happened to my a/c for my 97 landcruiser. The a/c temp cut switch has failed. It is located on the cold side (driver side) of the engine block next to the coolant temp sender.

The FSM does not tell me whether or not I can replace the unit without removing the intake manifold.

I tried to put a deep socket on it but it did not do it. Any advice on how to replace this switch?

It should be a 19mm deep well. There is a “tab” that sticks down so to socket has to clear this to go on, but it should be no problem. A 6 point socket would be best.

don't you think they would rather put it at the highest temperature point (coolant leaving the engine)?

It happened to me the other day while sitting at a light in a high ambient temp.

number floating around is 226F IIRC. IOW, if you are cutting off at a traffic light under no load cuz of high temp, you likely have a cooling problem to look at immediately.

The cold side location is probably ideal to sense the efficiency or lack of efficient operation of the radiator. Your coolant Will be hot leaving the engine however if it is still too hot after leaving the radiator then you have a problem

i apologize for the erroneous reference to diesel engine engineer talk.

I work with a lot of diesel engine (6 cylinders) applications. "Cold side" refers to the side of the engine compartment with the intake. The "Hot side" is the engine compartment that has the exhaust manifold.

Just a point of reference. Please ignore that...
