HG failing and rear heater blanking off, coincidence?

I am wanting to blank off my rear heater as the pipes are really corroded underneath the car in the usual place.

I was wondering if the guys that have done the blanking off, have had the dreaded HG failure? I was thinking that if certain pipes are blanked off, will it cause circulation problems that might lead to hotspots in the engine.

perhaps blanking the pipes under the car or joining them together will keep the circulation, where as blanking the pipes at the rear of the engine could cause a problem?
