"Professionally appraised two years ago at $46,500. Many options added since. Now asking $34,000 OBO."

Man, the things people pay people to do.....

I can do better than that...and I know cheaper. Only I wont blow sunshine up his and tell him what he'll never get for it.

Wow, very nice $20,000 LandCruiser! It's easy to take pot shots and I guess I'm no different by noting that he bought it "2 years ago" and it was professionally appraised for $46,000 "2 years ago." Coincidence?

Doug,
I agree that the price is steep but I think it was done by TLC... so it is top notch conversion..at top prices.
It looks super clean and the engine conversion looks good. I drool at the idea of a uberclean 80 w/ a nice V8.
I think any engine conversion would be at least $5K...at least.
The only downside for me is the non-stock wheels.

Still, keeping the price out of it, it is a beauty. It's nice to see such examples around still.

Lets see, no sliders! No winch, no driving lights, no snork! Cheap-ass rack. No DRAWERS! Ok, I'm lost. What makes this guy think its worth so much money?! TLC does some nice work...on 40s.

You can always buy mine at a fraction of the cost and then do the engine swap for 5K.

My father and I were cruising along on El camino in Palo Alto and noticed a very clean 80 sitting in a shop/parking lot about 2 months ago...It was so clean, we had to pull over...It's this very same cruiser, seen it up close, very clean, although as mentioned before, price is a little too steep. P.s, did I mention it was clean....lol

I love how people try and get all their money back for labor. I don't care who built it, generally speaking your only getting 50% of the parts you put into it. Good luck with that sale, that's a joke. Way too high if you ask me.

Hold on, i'll be right back.. im going to go appraise my rig for $50K..

Doesnt deluxe ARB bar mean its winch ready?

(or is that just the difference between the smaller commercial bar and what we get here in the US?)

Because thats not a winch bar.

No lockers...just a similar performing engine with 2 extra cylinders in an common 80.

I wonder if it gets any better gas mileage tho?

I can see 18k for the truck if its clean..

Who cares either way.

We all know that even if he gets full asking price, he will still be losing money based on what TLC charges.

If he gets $34k, more power to him.

The photos from the classifieds show the magic dial- triple locked.
I think the 5.7L V8 is quite a different performer than the 1fz.

as with anything, it's worth whatever someone pays for it.

I think it's a sweet truck. I can't comment on his asking price. If I did have that cash laying around, I'd buy it tho!

Usually when people are buying, everything is overpriced no matter how much it costs!

What's up with the cruise control switch?
Mine is on the right side of the wheel. Is that GM sourced as well?

Cruise control - I'm assuming that this cruise controls works with the ECU that is running the GM engine.

Good luck to the seller - he'll need it for that asking price!

edit: not a deluxe bull bar; this is a non winch bull bar.

I think that ARB is correctly referred to as a 'deluxe' model. Either that, or I got ripped off, cause both of mine look exactly like that and I paid for the deluxe. Deluxe (isn't it weird to use that word over and over...?) merely refers to the upper bars, I think.

Yeah, that would be a sweet truck to own but he's definitely going to have to find the very small % of people who don't care about the price and operating costs of a 10 year old SUV. Generally speaking, the people in that category would gravitate toward a loaded new one. I hope he gets what he's asking just so we can yak about it here....

"Stripped of all US market jewelry"

What a critically important feature.

My truck is prolly worth north of 60K based on this logic.......

I looked at this truck when TLC was selling it a couple years ago. VERY nice! I think they were asking around $50K?

I remember perusing the TLC website a few years ago. At that time they wanted $20k for a Chevy V8 conversion. If they did a moderate restoration as well (they have at least 3 levels, all the way to frame-up), I can believe TLC asking $50k for the vehicle.

However, I'd never do it myself. I can't bear to spend $$ on something I won't utilize. And driving $35k off road that I could roll and total at any moment would make me ill.

That 80 is worth $34k in my mind. 1st off remember what they cost new. second look at new vehicles today. $34k is half of a new one. There are a huge spread in personal income ranges on this site. people spend this amount of money in fuel to fly a B17 bomber on a weekend! So what I am saying is if you cant afford it dont shoot holes in it. I have a V8 80 series that I built myself and I am telling you it takes a ton of time to convert one of these correctly. Time is money fellas. I really enjoy the challenge of doing big projects like this. I didnt do it to save money. If I wanted to have a truck done tomorrow I would have paid someone like TLC to get it done. Places like TLC and other shops on mud are in business to earn a living, feed their kids etc. They cant do it for free, and they deserve to be paid a fair price to do such unique and quality work.

While we are on this subject two other great deals of trucks for sale are Podvins 100 series and slees short bus. One couldnt even come close to copying those trucks for the money and time invested in them. If I had more time to wheel and more car storage would buy the both of them.

Just my 2 cents friends!

Kirk

that is a decent truck in my eyes. IF i had that kind of money, i'd buy the nicest stock FZJ80 out there and do my own version of that build...which would NOT include removing the fender flares..and what's up with the dinky looking rack?

of course, for that money, i could buy a real nice brand new GMC Sierra...

everyone has their own opinion of what makes a built '80 really rad.

hopefully this guy can find someone who feels that way about this one...
