Sorry guys, this is a nut I can't crack. I've tried but it's maddening. Back to afghanem and I hope there's a way forward. Sorry all, wish I had good news.

There's underground currents that are hard to beat. The guy wouldn't tell me if he had them or not, he just kept saying he can't sell them for export, that I needed to be an Omani business to buy them, etc.

I think it has to do with the Toyota dealership in Oman on the border with the UAE being the biggest in the country and even bigger than the ones in the UAE... it's clear they are selling cross-border, even though technically its not their territory (Toyota has different exclusive dealerships in UAE and Oman).

What it boils down to is he wouldn't tell me if he had inventory, even when I pushed.

If there's an Omani-based member who can try ask, maybe in Muscat (far from UAE border) maybe we could get a better picture of if there's stock.

That really blows... It's frustrating to see so many people's hard work not pay off.

i think it's gone belly up. Not due to lack of anyone's hard work, i just don't think the "supplier" can supply.

Our last chance is Fouad or someone else in Oman willing to deal with dealers. And since Fouad was already having trouble before, it doesn't look good.

Dear Local Toyota dealer...
I have 70 guys willing to buy a snorkel kit this week for ~200 bucks.

Would you like to rack up 14000 dollars in sales in the first week of May?
If so reply to this thread with account info.

Seriously....

with this many people intersted in Snorkels, could we change the direction and turn it into a Safari Snorkel group buy? Its not as cool as the OEM swag, but it is available stateside...

I'm down. I actually like the safari looks better (guess i'm in the minority on that). If we can do it as cheap, i'm in.

I talked to Fouad yesterday and he said he has still not heard anything back from Mr Sundar and he has no idea what to make of it as he has received all the items he ordered from Mr Sundar just a week or so before we started this idea. Fouad has also stated it has definitely taken too long. Obviously I haven't had any luck talking directly to Mr Sundar myself either. I'm bummed about it.

I myself am not interested in a Safari snorkel. It's OEM snork only for me. My thoughts are that after we all officially give up on Mr Sundar (Has that already happened?--I'm holding on to a lil bit of hope still I think... LOL), we can hit up Mot or Japan4x4 and see what they can do for us...(though I'm sure the price will most definitely be higher).

The quote I got for japan4x4 is pretty much the same price as a Safari...

I contacted Mot a while back about OEM snorkels, I think the price he gave me was $315. I think that included shipping, but I may be mistaken.

Might be more now with the crappy exchange rates.

Since I erased all those old PMs I can't be sure, but I think Mot said that price was calculated at ¥99 = $1, exchange rate right now is ¥104 = $1 according to Google.

I am willing to tackle this with a couple of caveats If you guys are still game.

I will drop my skirts as the saying goes under the following conditions.

1) I do not want 20 different orders. See item 2.

2) someone there must handle the money, just get it all to me at once as a wire transfer. Paypal fees and accounting do really add up. Send a list of who is paid up with addresses and any shipping details.

3) this will not be for one or two sets, get 20 guys in line and we can swing it.

4) all sets will be the same, basic items for the snorkel, no nuts and bolts, no clamps. You can source the clamps and bolts there easily I am sure.

5) I can and will ship to individual addresses but all the shipping will be air. These things are not heavy and I have the shipping dialed in.

6) Air shipping will be the same to US, Canada and Mexico, more to Central and South America and Africa. Less to Oceana.

Note, if you are in Canada you will be billed GST, in the states there is almost no import duties. Shipping will take from 4 to 10 days absolute maximum. Fully insured and trackable. Each person will receive a tracking number when the goods ship.

If you are in Canada and "have a buddy that is bring in a truck" and you think you can stack these in the back and get them for no shipping fee think again. Nothing goes in the truck for RORO. And if you accidentally leave loose items like winch controllers or tool kits in the truck they will magically vanish. Plus shipping from Canada to the US costs more than direct from Japan. BOL item charges on a full container will actually end up costing more than shipping direct. Been there done that.

I have been down this path before. You can find clients of mine on Mud that will back me up. I always ship, the goods always get there, money never vanishes and if I do make a mistake I pay to fix it. I keep everyone in the loop on my stuff and I am willing to bet that no one ever says a bad thing about me or my company.

Now, I will be making money on this, I have a family that depends on my business. I have an office building to pay for and staff that kind of wants a pay check. If you want it for no margin on a buddy deal fly over and become my buddy :-)

End of story.

If someone there has the time and the desire to get this rolling then lets go. But let's make a firm deadline.

I'm still interested... Of course depending on what the final cost would be.

I think going through japan 4x4 is the best method given the price is right, as the Dubai contact will not or can't supply them in large numbers.

if i was there i am sure i would have convinced them, but i don't have the time to follow it through in person (sorry guys), the funny thing is i ordered 2 other orders from them and they are solid (it's weird).

on another note i haven't installed mine in yet, as there is no template and i have no time to stay with the installer. if someone has a template please let me know.

OK, well- since $$ talks in this (and every) area-

Japan4x4- we've got 60 people on a list. I'm sure we can get 20 orders (depending on price) Lets get a firm price out here based on 20 sets and see if folks still want them based on that price.

I am in still. My only restriction is cost. So please include me on the list.

BTW who do we want to be the representative of this order?

FWIW- I'm not all that interested if I have to go sourcing bracketry and associated items from other sources.

Thanks for offering to do this but please consider the mounting hardware for US spec. 80's.
I don't want to have to chase down bolts and clamps. I will pay your price for a 'complete' set. If the price is reasonable.
