The problem I feel is that he's busy with people coming in cash in hand buying his parts, so there's no real motivation for him to get involved with international orders, bank transfers, shipping... it's all extra hassle for him.

The flip side is of course the potential of pretty good volume selling snorkels, which aren't so hot over here. I mean, to sell 40-60 snorkels would take years...

Tomorrow I'm going to meet him in person so I'll be able to report more.
Prossett, Thanks for the update on that end. Definitely let us know how the meeting with him goes tomorrow.

As with most things factory, I'm sure this thing has directions all over it that says "Professional installation reccommended"! Without actually looking at it, it'll be hard to determine the difficulty of cutting the hole, but I don't think it's out of the scope of most people that are a little handy and have the sense not to hack needlessly at a perfectly good fender. Besides the advantages of having a snork, I think most people want the factory snork for the "cool" factor of it. Anybody can go out and get a Safari, but how many folks have a factory snorkel? I want one, but my priority is making sure I can make my daily 60 mile round-trip commute!

DIRECTIONS!!!!!HAHAHAHA!!

There are none. It is not a "kit", simply parts.

If you take your time and think the puzzle through, it isn't all that hard to install. You just have to be a bit precise for the cut in the fender.

Oh and Welcome RiggerFJ80

Thanks, Green! I've been lurking around here for a while to make sure I know what I'm getting in to before getting my '91 tomorrow. I guess I didn't realize that was my first post. and good luck with the snorkel buy, guys!

Sure, bud - I'll call you when I'm with him so we can try start build something of a relationship with him, so he's not dealing with total strangers. It'll be early early morning your side, sorry!

EDIT: Mr Sundar did not go into work this morning so I missed him on my drive in to Dubai (takes me 2 hours to get there) so we'll try again another time.

In the meantime, I've done a little asking around, and the snorkels were never available from Toyota in the UAE, and are all from Oman (regional differences in models, and now I learn, parts) so add that together with Mr Sundar saying he had to check his contacts in Oman for stock, and I figure he's bringing them in from there. I live close to the Omani border so I faxed the Toyota dealer there asking for a quote for 20 complete snorkels - let's see what they say.

Well, I wasn't going to chime in, but since we are talking numbers, may I suggest 44 instead? A much nicer number than 20. A square times a prime, just like 20, but the symmetry...

Anyhow, I would like to point out that the '94 would be the one getting the snork, if and when. And once again, a big thank you to everyone busting their posteriors on this project.

Hi Ferg,

Well i am in the States now, LA, anyway, if i read correctly, have u gotten 20 orders started already, or in the process, i will be back home prolly on the 17th or so, i think best bet with Sundar is call him direct or even better is to meet in person as Prossett suggested (or did), i haven't had much time to monitor the thread, but i hope it gets rolling soon, once first batch goes i think the others will follow.

later

Fouad

Hi Fouad,

I've lost a little patience with Sundar, as he's said "yes, tomorrow" over several days and not yet delivered on his word; that's kind of normal for a retail shop in the UAE, but it doesn't bode well for getting a well-organized series of intl shipments going.

How did you hook up with him? He's located in the busiest possible place in Deira Dubai. Was he close to your hotel or something, because nobody I know goes buy parts in the Deira souq area, as Sharjah BMW road is where all the parts shops are.

Yet he did mail one to you, so I suppose that's points in support...

Anyways, I've opened a new front with a quote request from Toyota Oman, so we'll see if they have stock or not. That might give us an alternative to Sundar.

Hi,all, I havent spoken up about the snorkel buy, but Im interested in 2 of them. and perhaps I can help a bit more, If this happens. , I can offer Free Shipping from Japan, for the lot of them. so that would cut down on cost if they can be sent to Yokohama for cheap.... then From Here in Victoria BC Canada the shipping could be pretty cheap........ at least alot cheaper that trying to ship the internationaly this many Snorkels.
just my $0.02

I dare say that NOBODY in Japan, including myself and 4X4 Japan can even purchase them for less than $200US, not to mention the shipping charges to Yokohama, the Customs charges into Canada, shipping from Canada, and then the Customs charges for the U.S.

So I doubt going through that route would be financially beneficial to you guys.

Hopefully this deal will still materialize eventually, either via UAE or Oman.

Good luck to you all!

Well, i just found them online, i ordered a carburetor, and my bro-in-law picked it up, this is the first time, and i ordered a bunch of other parts as well, and everything was as ordered, the second time i saw green73, talk about the snorkel, so i looked the part #'s, and i had their price list and that's how i hooked up with Sundar.

i will be back home in a week i will call him up as i might need some other small parts, and order from him, so i will tell him wtf dude, it's been forever.

but iirc, he told me in one of his emails, he likes to deal with one person, so Prossett, just tell him ur ready to order, or go their other store location, i am sorry i can't help from here, but i will try to call him once i am back in lebanon.

1 week has passed since I faxed the parts dept of Toyota Oman and no response, so I'm going to have to go visit in person (to hear the innocent Oh! We didn't receive any fax...)

And if that doesn't produce any encouraging response, then I'm afraid I'm out, having tried my best, and if Fouad or Ferg can get Mr Sundar to respond then there is a forward way with this, if not then there needs to be a fresh supplier found.

Wish doing business here were as straight forward as phoning/emailing customer service and placing the order, paying by card, and then a bright chap in uniform rings your doorbell package in hand... but that's not how it works.

Thanks for the update. A visit in person to Toyota Oman would be awesome if you can do that. We all owe you a beverage-of-your-choice each by now...possibly even a dinner-of-your-choice... LOL

Odd shaped hole. I know the 80 series newsgroup people have installed these on dozens of vehicles and it was always a circular how... like 4" in size.

Anyways,.. I'd be interested at this price so,.. count me in:
