Tire / Rim related questions

I have been reading a lot on the forum about tire related questions, and now i guess I've gotten myself a little confused.
'91 TLC Stock.
2.5" 80 Series OME lift ordered....in shipping now
stock rims show 31'x10.5x15 on the tire, but I believe I see a 15x7JJ on the rim.
I will be ordering 33" tires today (TSL Radials), but want to make sure I do it properly. What is the widest size I can go on the stock rim (ie 33'x12.5x15?) without the need to trim fender wells, etc.
I know this may seem a ignorant question, but help is greatly appreciated.

The question is how wide a tire you can fit on that 7" wide rim. I had 33x12.5x15 on 15x10 rims with OME lift and it rubbed a little but not much to trim IIRC. With those wheels it might rub on the inner fender well instead of the outer.

Sounds to me like you're confusing two different issues:

1) What size tire will rub on the body.

2) What width rims are required for proper performance from a given size tire.

These two questions really don't have much to do with each other.

FWIW, most tire shops will not mount a 12.50" wide tire on anything less than an 8" wide rim. The tire manufacturer specs min and max rim widths for any given tire size and the tire shop will open itself to liability issues if they don't follow specs.

That being said, folks have mounted 12.50" wide tires on 7" rims, but I don't like the way the sidewall bulges. I run 15x8 American Racing black spoke steelies with a 4" backspacing and have no rubbing issues. I have run the OME 850/860 spring combination with 35x12.50 MTRs on the AR rims with no (very little) rubbing.

If your tires don't rub you can fit bigger ones.
