Tire size question
I am just wondering how much it would screw things up if I were to install 265/75/16 on my rig versus the stock size of 275/70/16.......
Anyone have any thoughts on the matter.
I apologize if this is a repost, I don't have time to search.

Not a problem.
Go 285/75r16 if you want.

Any adverse effects that I will notice.....such as drivablity, screwed up computer, major mileage issues (not that it matters much with these rigs....its not the reason we buy them....right!)
Also any recommendations on brand/model
Thanks for helping out a new guy.

The only thing you might notice is a decrease in braking power (depending on the size of tire you pick, and its weight).

Maybe it's me but my truck stops quicker on 33" MTs than the worn out stockers. I'd imagine this is mostly due to the softer rubber compound... they will fade the brakes a lot quicker though.

As you increase tire size you may feel a loss of power as it takes more HP to turn a larger tire.
Your speedo will read slower than actual speed.
Odometer will be a little off in the long run.

265/75 is close enough to 31x10.50r15, which is another "stock" tire option

Pretty hard to get a 15" tire on a 16" rim.

91's came with 15inch rims, stock.
I was merely pointing out that a 265/75r16 has dimensions that are very close to a 31x10.50....
in practical usage, most people wouldn't much notice the difference in feel/performance going from 270/70r15 to 265/75r16

a 265/75/r16 is actually slightly taller than a 32X11.5R15 - it is a little taller and thinner than the stock size. I had 265's terra grapplers on my 97 and they were definitely heavier than the stock tires(harder to accelerate and stop) - but the mileage was still accurate.
heres a pic:

I just switched to the 265/75/16 from stock and noticed no difference in acceleration or braking. They are about a .5" taller and norrower.
I thought very seriously about going to a 285 but decided against it since I did not want to take the hit in mileage and acceleration.

i just went with 305/70/16's. they are beefy. acceleration has been hurt a bit but i don't give a s***. when the lift goes on tomorrow she'll be looking good. i'm totally off topic here.... just so excited to put my lift on tomorrow i had to post.
i wouldn't worry about the difference between a 275/70 and a 265/75. i doubt you'd even notice the difference.

I'm running 265 Revos and so far they've been great for pavement and dirt/gravel roads. Thinking about moving up to 255/85/16's when these wear out though. They should handle about the same on pavement, and better offroad.
I had originally put a set of 285's on, but there was a very noticeable difference in handling and loss of gas mileage - 2.5mpg less with 285's vs. 265's.

In 97 i did the lift kit so i could put a set of BFG's 33x12.50x15 on her. Then i was told i needed to do a Gear change to make up for the power loss, My Speedo has been F KED UP ever sense.
DONT DO THE BIG TIRE THING, Thats just my advice.

What? MAny people on this board run 35 inch tires with stock gearing and do just fine. I run 33's and ya my speedo is off by about 7mph but that is going to happen if you put larger than stock tires on. You were told you need to do a gear change, but do you really? No, you dont.

Shoot if you ran 33's in 1997 you were king of the road! Those were big back then.

FWIW, about 3 out of every 5 80's I looked at in over a year had 265's rather than the stock 275's...
