tranny temp and oil pressure are not available via OBDII on my 95. Anyone know if they were added to 96-97 models?

Just When I think I'm okay with the gadgets...you have to come out with a new one that I have to have. One more to the list, shit.

Here's where I put mine.
From my point of view, I cannot see the OEM coolant temp gauge (perfect ! ) I found that the coolant temp maxed out at 190°F on the highway or while parked. __________________ '97 LX450 : Lockers : IPOR skid plate : Heated Seats : 305/75R16 Firestone Destination A/T's - 1.25" Wheel Spacers : CDL switch : Pin 7 mod : 4x4Labs bumper w/carrier/ladder: Breathers for TC/AT/Diffs/Lockers Boot Hill Cemetary Here lies Lester Moore, Shot in the head with a '44, No Les, No Moore. |

I moved mine to the dip in the steering colum resting right on the dash. it doesn't block gauges- try it out, it will be cleaner.
I had to side plug it like you, no room at the back but still I like it centered. |

I tried it there too but in order to get it into the "dip", I had to tilt the steering wheel lower than I like it (much like Ralph Cramden, I feel like I'm driving a bus).

Just ordered the Scangauge II today and they are now being shipped with the new firmware. As soon as the new codes are available from their website, you could enter them directly to the unit.
BTW, thanks for the parksoffroad group buy, I got it for $149.95 + 14.95 for the extra cable. Alex __________________ 1996 LX450 w/ the Magic Dial Bone-Stock for now... Except for a few pink panty upgrades: Pioneer D3 NAV, Projector Headlights, LED Taillights & George's interior LEDs... |

Snorkel will lower intake air temps by 30-50 deg. When moving above 20mph or so, the air temp only runs about 10 deg above ambient.

The greater the difference in temp between the engine and the intake temp, the more efficient the engine. So a snorkel will not only keep the water out but will also make the 80 happy. __________________ '97 LX450 : Lockers : IPOR skid plate : Heated Seats : 305/75R16 Firestone Destination A/T's - 1.25" Wheel Spacers : CDL switch : Pin 7 mod : 4x4Labs bumper w/carrier/ladder: Breathers for TC/AT/Diffs/Lockers Boot Hill Cemetary Here lies Lester Moore, Shot in the head with a '44, No Les, No Moore. |

It basically shielded it from the hot air coming out of the fan. The thread is out there somewhere with all the data if interested. __________________ Rick Bigelow '96 215k Groveland MA 01834 If you're not the lead dog, the view never changes |

I have one comming. I told my wife I wanted on for my bithday. She went to Jegs and told them what I wanted. She came home with some rice rocket computer that draws line graphs of engine rpm's, g-forces etc. She took it back and I gave her the link to the group buy. Im thinking about mounting it on the center console behind the transfer case shifter. Any opinions?

That's where I put it and it's not great for visibility during the day. The screen isn't really "sun-friendly". Works great for night driving though.

Has anyone tried mounting this in the uselss cubby location (where the LX has the cupholder) in the top of the center stack?
This is on my list but currently there are several things to be bought before this. Definitely route the cable through the opening in the tilt steering column. Don't forget to remove the ODBII connector in the fuse panel and rotate it so that it points downwards. This requires a 90° rotation along a horizontal axis followed by a 180° rotation along a vertical axis. Plug in the connector and then remount the OEM connector using two screws. Tuck the cable inside the fuse panel and then wiggle it around back there until you see it through the opening around the steering column. Get a pair of needle nose pliers and snatch the cable end through the opening. __________________ '97 LX450 : Lockers : IPOR skid plate : Heated Seats : 305/75R16 Firestone Destination A/T's - 1.25" Wheel Spacers : CDL switch : Pin 7 mod : 4x4Labs bumper w/carrier/ladder: Breathers for TC/AT/Diffs/Lockers Boot Hill Cemetary Here lies Lester Moore, Shot in the head with a '44, No Les, No Moore. |

Data collected on this morning commute:
. Ambient temp.: ~56-58F . Intake Air temp.: 58F-86F . Water temp.: 187F-193F (peaked after getting off the highway) The coolant and thermostat were replaced approx. 3 years ago, the rest of the cooling system are original (114Kmiles). May be it's time for a new blue hub fan clutch? __________________ '97 LX450 - Triple locks - fully loaded 2.5" lift OME851/860 springs + Bilstein B46-1477/1478 shocks - 285/75/16 Bridgestone AT Revo - 3M lense protectors - Hella 100FF driving lights - blinking side markers |

)Might be time to at least check your fan clutch...From what I've seen most say if your fan is original and you have 100K+ miles that you should go ahead and replace the fan clutch... __________________ '97 LX450 aka "The Whale" with a winch called Damien '97 FZJ80 40th AE, Antique Sage, #267 '74 FJ40, 2F, SM420, 4" Lift, ARB locked front and rear, 33" MTRs '76 FJ40, 2F, 4-speed, 4" Lift, 33" BFG ATs (SOLD)

so far, no matter the ambient or iat, it always seems to run in the 190F range once fully warmed up. I think maybe this is the normal zone...?

Not so sure about the new firmware thing. Yesterday I got an email from scangauge stating that they are still working on adding Toyota functionality.

I think you are correct based on what I've read. Once warmed up, regardless of OAT, a rig in good shape should be running in a standard temp range. Too little cooling is just as bad as too much cooling so regardless if it is 10F outside or 100F outside, you want the Cruiser running in the prime temp range which seem to be in the 195F range give or take...Can't remember the exact temp at which a stock thermostat is designed to be fully open but I guess that is close to the prime WT you are after. Neither too hot nor too cold, just right

The stock thermostat on the cruiser has 180F (82C) opening temperature. According to Raventai's post in one of the cooling threads, it should fully open by 203F (95C). From all the data posted, it looks like the normal operating temperature is within 190F-200F range, on flats at least.
Interestingly, my 2006 Sienna, which has the same thermostat specs as the cruiser, has a 182F-186F operating temperature - probably because the cooling system is still brand spanking new? __________________ '97 LX450 - Triple locks - fully loaded 2.5" lift OME851/860 springs + Bilstein B46-1477/1478 shocks - 285/75/16 Bridgestone AT Revo - 3M lense protectors - Hella 100FF driving lights - blinking side markers |

sjcruiser,
thanks that's good to know. so far I have not gone above 203-204F so that tells me i'm ok. It's really nice to have this exact measurement, takes the wondering out of the equation! |
