Things take forever, I'm bad enough, but when you rely on others (that are nice enough to even offer up the service) things can take a very long time...
I've been speaking with Photoman and he has come up with a trick bracket that he might be able to produce a bit more quickly... it will cost more but still might fit everone's budget. So this project might pass on over to him as not only is everyone waiting for a bracket, but I've not assembled the front of my 80 in order to keep access to this bracket location easy for development... Bill should be chiming in shortly.
Let's get this thing movin'!

Just checking in, looking for an update. I've got a dying alternater and I am trying to hold out for this mod as I am running multiple amps, a carputer and all sorts of audio "junk" that gobbles up power.

Thanks bjowett for your idea of this alternator retrofit. As Brian mentioned I did come up with a solution to getting the alternator to mount on a 1997 and be adjustable. Unfortunately, it is not an easy solution and requires quite a bit of machining and fabrication to make. In my talks with Brian, I mentioned to him that I got a price from a machine shop on just one of the pieces and they wanted $75.00 for it for a run of 50 pieces. That was just the mount plate with nut welded; not press bent, not the adjustment arm, not the adjustment nut, not powder coated, and no nuts washers and bolts. So I have been machining away myself making a few of these adapters to try to see how it can work out to try to help members and it is a slow process. It is averaging about one per long day. My thoughts are now if there is any interest in this, is to make a limited number of them available.

Looks good. Sounds like you are workn too hard for this to be profitable. Maybe Great Lakes Waterjet could cut the brackets and you could do the welding? Just an idea.

While I, like everyone else here, appreciate all the forum members working on a bracket to install the high output alternator, we should also keep the cost in mind as this started out as a low cost way to put a high amp aternator from a Tundra into a 80-series. It does come to a point where the cost of the bracket makes the Outbackoffroadgear's offer of $240 for a 175 amp direct replacement alternator a better alternative for hi-amp alternator upgrade.

For those interested the price for the adapter I made is $75.00 plus shipping. That includes the nut, bolts, and washers. I have a limited number of electrical adapters to make it a kit that I can include for an additional $7.00. I should have the electrical adapters around Wednesday or Thursday of next week according to CDan.
Many people have waited a long time for a solution to do this mod so it seemed only fair to offer them first to those that have waited the longest. Bjowett (Brian) was kind enough to suggest giving a one time notice to those from the beginning of this thread if they are interested. I will try to notify each person but hopefully they will see this and respond with a PM one way or the other. I will wait until Sunday (12/02/2007) for a response from the early posters. After that, the first persons that let me know now will be next in line. I will do my best to supply these to those that want them. I would hope for understanding as it takes quite a bit of work to make them and I am a one man operation. Brian informed me the USPS has flat rate priority mail for shipping items so I checked and they have flat rate envelopes at $4.60 and flat rate boxes at $8.95. All prices are US dollars. The envelopes should work unless some large machine needs a small meal.
Be aware I have used my 1997 as the pattern to make this with. My cruiser is not running so these are not tested in a running cruiser. Also, please understand from my perspective because of the amount of labor and material involved, I feel I am doing this to try to help the cruiser community out to do this adaptation. As such, at any point I may quit making them, be it a day or a year.

Just an update to those that were interested in this conversion. First, I had informed some people that wanted to buy a bracket with the electrical connector that the electrical connectors may not be available as I had purchased the US supply of them and there were only so many. It turns out after a conversation with CDan that I bought the current US supply. Dan said there were more connectors in the pipeline from Japan so more will be available in the future. He was shipping across the country to me today so those that are waiting for their orders can gauge from that.
I have had many questions about the wiring of this alternator upgrade. Brian (bjowett) posted the wire color codes in post #69 of this thread. Basically, the stock alternator has 3 wires in its connector. "S" which is hot, "IG" which is hot when the key is on, and "L" which is hot with the key on and is for the warning light. The high output alternator has the same letters and functions as above with the addition of "M", which on the Tundra or Sequoia is a wire that goes to the their computer but is not used on the land cruiser. So it is just a matter of having the correct four wire connector for the high output alternator, removing the wire pin connectors from the stock connector, and pushing them in the correct positions on the four wire connector. Both the stock alternators and the high output alternators have a diagram on them showing which pin is which. If there is a problem removing the wires from the stock connector, CDan has repair pigtail wires available approx. 6 inches long with the wire clip and rubber boot already on them for about $5.32 ea. list. This then opens up another possibility. Instead of switching the wires from the stock connector it would be possible to just buy the four wire connector for the high output alternator and three of these pigtail wires and then tee into the existing wires. This then would allow a person to use either alternator as long as they kept their stock mount bracket. Just a thought.
A few other random thoughts. I had upgraded my large charging wire that comes off the alternator years ago after a meltdown caused by a dual battery isolator. It might be a thought to upgrade this wire with the alternator upgrade to a heavier wire.
Another question was on the increased output. Since the land cruiser has a volt gauge there should be no effect on the system that way. If a person has added an amp gauge that is not of sufficient range, then a higher output alternator will peg the gauge rendering it sort of useless.
Lastly, the stock pulley is a direct swap to the Toyota high output alternator.
