Towing Report

I thought I'd start a thread where we post our towing experiences to possibly go to the FAQ's if Romer sees fit.

Vehicle Background:

93 FZJ80, 206K, New Radiator 02/06, Flush 02/07, new t-stat, Blue Fan Clutch, Auto Meter Pro Comp gauge (calibrated), 31 inch tires, stock gearing. OME 850/863, ARB bumper, no winch, Hanna Sliders.

Towed item:
Bayliner Capri 20 ft boat ~2500lbs.

Tow distance:

~300 miles. Flagstaff, AZ to Dolores, CO via 89 towards Page then through Kayenta and 4 Corners through Cortez to Dolores.

Weather:
Sunny and dry the entire trip, 70 in Flag at departure, mid 90's on the reservation and low 90's in Cortez.

Mileage:

11.45 MPG running at 55-65 on the flats and down hills and ~50 on the pull up hills.

Report:

The 80 did great. I did have to turn off the air after making the turn towards 4 Corners on the hill and again around the Ute Casino. My gauge was indicating 215 when I shut the air down and it dropped back to just below 210 after I shut it off. on the flats and downhills with the air on, it indicated 205. I kept the transmission in PWR mode and the overdrive on unless I was going up hill.

I'd be curious to see what the removal of your lights right in front of the radiator would do with temperatures. From your pictures it looks like you have significantly affected the airflow through the engine compartment/radiator.
