Newbie question on 80's factory lockers

I keep trying to search but either my computer does not have enough memory or mud is pulling to many becuase it says fatal error on searches when i try.

My question is, on a 96 or 97 80 series cruiser that has the Diff lock swith that says Rear locker or you can turn it to Front and Rear locker, is this the same as me adding ARB lockers where all four tires will spin the same with the same torque as a fully locked rig. I have read alot on the CDL switch or shifting into LOW to have the part time four wheel drive but cannot seem to run a search on whether the lockers are true lockers. Any help would sure be nice on this becuase I am about to buy one and want to make sure I know what I am getting. Thanks.

The F&R lockers on your truck are "true lockers." In fact, your truck has 3 differentials and each can be selectively locked or unlocked.

A stock US spec 80-series is always full-time 4WD. Shifting to high or low just changes the transfer case gearing. In a stock 93-97 truck, shifting to low also locks the center diff which is the equivalent of locking the hubs and shifting into 4WD on other less capable rigs.

The CDL switch (stock on 91-92; can be retro-fitted on 93-97) simply allows manual control over the locking/unlocking of the center differential. The center diff must be locked to enable the F&R diff lock ECU to engage the font and rear axle locks.

Read the Diffs for Dummies page that is linked in the 80-Section FAQ.
