Sub-Zero Synthetic A/C Booster
Any thoughts on this product? Maybe I should save my money for
How does Sub-Zero Synthetic A/C Booster work?
Quest Sub-Zero Synthetic A/C Booster creates a boundary of lubricant on the surface of all metal component parts of the air conditioning system, including the compressor. Quest Sub-Zero Synthetic A/C Booster increases heat transfer by guarding against lubricant migration on the heat exchange surfaces of the evaporator and condenser coil. By eliminating the energy robbing barriers caused by stagnate oil build up and carbon deposits, the system requires less energy and cools more efficiently.
A typical application of 2 ounces will treat the average automotive system on the road today.

My thought when looking at it was that it was synthetic oil. If it lowered air temps by 1% I'd be surprised.
One thing that made me decide against it is that our systems (134a at least) take a different viscosity oil than most- I disremember at the moment if it was heavier or lighter, but different anyway.

Sounds like it cleans the inner layer so heat transfer can take place more readily - a sound principle. However, I think you'll get more bang for your buck from a $2 spray bottle of Simple Green to soak your A/C radiator and engine radiator, then methodically spraying out the accumulated dust and road oils that attracted the dust to stick.
I'm generally not a fan of additives, believing that the manufacturers designed the system to work with the industry standard freon and that it is optimized for that.

FWIW i used this stuff on my AC repair this week and now that everything is working it is blowing between 42* and 45* at the vents. I only picked it up b/c it was all that was in stock at the local Auto Zone on a Sunday afternoon.

Good deal, that's how oil works.

So,,, it "creates a boundary of lubricant on the surface of all metal components" but not the metal evaporator and condenser? Nice trick!

Good plan. A/C systems work best with the correct type and amount of oil and freon, if needed leak check dye. When I charge a system I look for pure freon of the type required, if oil is needed, add the type required for the system. Adding the latest "may work in all systems" oils and freons, winding up with a mixture is just asking for trouble.
Most when a quart low on motor oil add the same brand and weight, why mix oils in the A/C system? Motor oils are very similar, A/C oils are not, they very drastically and there is a reason that one type is specified for your system. If Toyota thought that there was an advantage to switching to another oil there would be a TSB so their dealers could take advantage of the benefits of the "new" oil.
