Cruiser doors locking themselves constantly - just started.

OK, literally while I was searching for this issue I see another guy's having issues with his. Slightly different from mine.

This afternoon I went to the garage to get something and heard the 97's doors lock. Huh. Must be someone new in the neighborhood with a remote. Wait, I don't have remote lock/unlock. Hmm. Seconds later, the doors again lock (were already locked both times so you get that muted sound). Hmm. I walked over and the interior lights are off. Walk around and push all doors shut and none seem unshut. Bang on them also in case they're the offending door. Ditto rear hatch. No response.

A bit later, I tried to get in and as soon as I turn the driver's lock to unlock, it instantly locks again. So I get in and during a 15 minute drive they continued to lock in a random pattern several times per minute. Sometimes they'd lock immediately as I drove when I hit unlock, other times it would be a few seconds or a minute. Even while locked, the locks continuously try to lock.

I whacked the door lock switches, tried both sides and same behavior. The one hint I have is that once or twice as I drove along, I THOUGHT I heard just the rear hatch lock activate by itself. Not sure. Until this day, this has never happened. I washed the car yesterday just like I have for years. It's hot and dry here. No guages or dash lights did anything strange - watched the ammeter as well.

Just to clarify, they're not trying to UNLOCK at all. That would make me suspicious of a loose door latch or striker, or that feature that unlocks the door if you lock the doors with the key in the ignition and the key is off to prevent locking the keys in the ignition. No issues there.

So. Someone else had an issue like this but it's not coming up in search.

Mine was doing this constantly when I had a loose connection on my alarm behind the DS kick panel.

that exact thing happened to a honda I had. All the exact same symptoms.
It was a bad door lock solenoid. It was located in the door and that actuator needed to be replaced... could be something similar- maybe bad ground on one...loose wire... worn actuator...etc

Mine was repeatedly locking and unlocking even as I drove. Thankfully, it just as suddenly stopped doing so and hasn't repeated since. I suspect a floating connection, but that was long ago and there is no problem today.

Start small... then work up to the big ideas on what could be going on....

Check the remote battery seems simple enough but mine would do the same thing when it was time to change the battery. It would also happen from time to time when the button would get stuck.

My locks were doing the same thing just this weekend, except mine kept trying to unlock. I also noticed that the lock switches only worked in one direction (unlock) and the auto-locking on startup feature was disabled. In my case there was no mystery what had caused it though. I had left the cruiser sitting in the driveway Friday night, forgot to put the windows up and we got some rain overnight. The armrests were wet, so I figured enough water had seeped into the door lock switches to short something.

Fortunately Saturday brought clearing, so I left it out in the yard again with the windows still down. Several hours of sunshine and fresh air later, problem solved. It hasn't come back yet, so I think I got lucky.

Do you think there's any chance some water could've found its way inside one of the doors while you were washing it?
