New here

Hey anyone who will listen,
Just found this web form, never joined anything like this but I am excited to meet and hear from others. My name is Jeremy, I am 22 yrs old, married and live outside of Denver Colorado. I recently got a smokin deal on my 93 fj80 land cruiser. I have done minor work to the exterior but it looks great again. One complaint, it cost's 83.00 bucks to fill this beauty up with 87 octane. The gas tank and gauge is very deceiving because the 25 gallon tank would have you beleive that you are getting great gas mileage until you wip out your handy little calculator. Anyways, I am currently looking at doing some small upgrades. Anyone have any suggestion on new suspension components. Should I through a small lift on it. I wont be adding any bigger tires then the stock ones, but I heard it will improve handleing. Also I love K&N filters, thinking of putting one on this unit any pros or cons. Lastly underneith the hood it appears as this vehicle having a ton of emission stuff on it. It did originally come from California. Anyone know what can be removed without harm on engine that may increase performance. Colorado has strict emmissions but not nearly what California has.
Thanks Everyone
Please introduce your self

Welcome, Jeremy!

I know what you mean about the gas mileage. I bet an M1A2 Abrams battle tank gets better gas mileage... sheesh. Anyways, I'm not the best person to answer your questions because I'm a newbie too, but the other guys on here will surely help you out!

Welcome Jeremy! Newbie salute:

You've come to the right place. This site has a wealth of info that you'll need for your new rig.

Before you get into any modifications you probably ought to focus on establishing a maintenance baseline, especially if you don't have a thorough history on the truck. You'll want to change all the fluids and do a few other things in the preventive maintenance arena. Search on "baseline" for more info.

Also, one of the best things you can do right now is to invest some time in reading the 80s FAQ section. That is a gold mine of info and will answer a lot of newbie questions right off the bat. Use the link at the top of the 80s Tech section, "Newbies check here first" and follow the links from there.

If you get a chance, post a pic or two of the 80!

personally i wouldn't do the k&n filter as it lets an oily residue enter the throttle body and engine. welcome aboard.

Welcome!

I am a newb also, best advice is to read and keep reading. When you are done go back and read it again.
You have entered into a sick obsession that will take over your life.

Can't say enough about the people and the info on this site, more help and $hit than you can imagine. It is great!
Good luck with your rig.

welcome

definatley do the maintenance first! i suggest toyota parts. if you really want a lift and you are leaving stock tires go with the Old Man Emu. it improves the ride and gives your rig a good look. it is relatively inexpensive also. there is a wealth of knowledge here youve come to the right place.

Your emmisions equiptment is not costing you gas mileage. I wouldnt be pulling anything off of an 80 seeming as though most is computer controlled. Also kn filters are crap on gas motors. you wont get anything out of them besides trouble. Welcome to Co. are you sure you dont wanna go back? Just thought Id ask,
