Introduction, Brian894x4

This is my introduction post. I’ve been lurking off and on since I registered in early 2004 and finally just bought a reason to be on here for good, when I picked my first Land Cruiser a few weeks ago. It’s a 95 FZJ80 with 85K miles on it and in really good condition. I’ve posted a few times, but I guess I should post an introduction.

I just want to say this board has been of such incredible value in learning about this LC that I can’t even begin to express the thanks you all deserve. Just about every single question I could come up with has been answered with a quick use of the search feature, and I’ve already started buying stuff from Cdan and Slee.

The LC will replace my 1989 Toyota SAS pick-up that I built up into an expedition rig and have had for about the last 8 years. Right now it’s bone stock, but once the truck sells, the mods will begin. This rig is absolutely awesome and will fit our expedition needs perfectly….as long as the oil from the middle east keeps flowing, that is.

I have big plans, although nothing too extreme. It has to still retain most of its on-road comfort for our long trips, so the initital mods will be the common stuff everyone else has. 285 MTRs, OME 861/862s, ARB bumper, 9000lb winch, AO rack and a lot of custom interior, electric, and minor mods, etc. And then we’ll go from there….. It's not going to be a serious off roader. Primarily weekend and multiday expedition travels into the mountains and desert. Might have a roof top tent in my future as well.

It's a non-locked rig, but I couldn't pass up the condition, mileage and short, local owner history. I'll be doing front/rear ARBs in the near future.

Some of you might recognize my website. I've seen it referred to a few times on here. Specificly these sections:

http://www.brian894x4.com/FOREIGNTOYOTAMAINPAGE.html

http://www.brian894x4.com/MILITARYTOYOTAS.html

http://www.brian894x4.com/TOYTECHHompage.html

The two top pages are in major need of an update as I've been concentrating on other sections of the website lately.

Anyway, thanks again for a wonderful site and all the information. Here’s my poser shot of the day:

Bone stock. So many plans.....

Hi Brian and welcome to non-lurking status. We like to see how people choose to build up their rigs so keep us posted and ask questions any time.

Welcome Brian!

I LOVE YOUR SITE! Spent many long hours there. My favorite pics are of the military cruisers with the machine guns.

Your 80 looks great. Awesome color! Please post new pics as you build it.

Thanks for your contributions to the cruiser community and I'm looking forward to hangin' with you on MUD!

Thanks for the kind words everyone. Randy, it's a small world!

As for the truck, unfortunately, it will have to put up for sale. There's just no room in the budget or the garage for both. Once sold, it will free up some funds to start building the LC to be a worthy replacement of the truck.

At first, I wasn't sure how I'd feel about selling the truck, but after a few weeks of the LC, I really have no regrets at all. The truck is the superior extreme off roader, but we do far less of that nowadays and do more of where the LC really shines, which is camping and exploration trips into the wilderness. With the better ride, handling, more comfort, more room and more power, I'm in heaven!
